I may be way off base here but I'm curious if there's a conical bullet for my .54 cal T/C Renegade, and my .45 cal. CVA Kentucky long rifle? I'm also considering trying paper patch bullets for these two rifles also. Sooooo... any helpful hints as to which conicals to use with and without paper patch. Thanks a bunch, I do pay close attention to all the helpful advice I see here. Steve in Tenn.

No Excuses Bullets or the TC style Maxi-Balls or Maxi-Hunters. No Excuses come lubed. Maxi's can be lube with whatever you want. Work in an Investarm 54 & in a 45 Seneca. May or may not work in your guns, but worth trying. Let us know how things work out. BTW, PP's are a PIA in a front stuffer, IMHO.

Your Renegade was made to shoot both round balls and maxi balls, both I have shot alot in mine. Don't know what kind of conicals you want to shoot but this is what I have always shot in mine. I have got some Buffalo bullet conicals from a cousin and plan on trying these to see how the shoot in my Renegade.

I have had very good results with the Lee REAL style.
Two of the folks I sold these to have also had very good results with them.

54 caliber is the cailiber i shoot mainly here is what all i shoot, my favorite is the Hornady great plains 425 using a ox yoke wad over 80 grains 2F the problem is they are discontinued thank god i have 30 boxes left, the no excuse 535 grain is a real hammer they work well out of my renegades but to loose in my lyman deerstalker and great plains hunter. i do paper patch them for the lyman i used 2 wraps of 9# onion skin paper. 3rd bullet i use is tc maxiball 430 grain once again another hammer of a bullet for penetration they are also discontinued i have a good stash of those. i also like the real it may be the single most accurate out of all my .54s ive got the 300 gr mold and the 380 grain mold they can be tough to get past the last ring as most of my renegades are .542 or so my lymans are closer to .546 your long rifle may be 1-66 check on the side of the barrel i have a kentucky 45 and it is 1-66 i just shoot roundballs

Waiting on the mail lady to bring my new Lee R.E.A.L. molds, one in .54 and one in .45 cal, I'll post pics of them after molding. I'm lubing with one part beef tallow, one part parafin, and 1/2 part bee's wax. Any opinions on this mixture? Thanks guys and gals.

First, you should be fine with that.
Second, you should be good with the R.E.A.L. bullets
Third, interesting mixture..., how did you come up with it? Is that your round ball lube too ?

As you know, everyone and his brother has a secret formula for lube, I found this one on Youtube. I know sheep tallow is prefered but it seems to be ok, very pliable after setting. I'll be using it on my Lee R.E.A.L. bullets. I'll let you know how it works.

If you find that mix a little too stiff, use some olive oil to thin it down some and make it more cool weather friendly.
I change my mix according to the season, it doesn't take much.

Got the new mold fired up today, I think they came out pretty darned good!!

Got the .54 cal R.E.A.L. mold running. I bought a $10 crockpot for melting lube, a witches brew of 5 oz beef tallow, 5 oz paraffine, 2 1/2 oz bee's wax, and one whole toilet bowl ring, extra thick, from Home Depot, also an oz of Alox for good measure. Sticks great and is still pliable. The real test will be when I fire off a few, I'll keep you all posted. Thanks, Steve in Tenn.

I ended up getting a set of Lee R.E.A.L. molds in .45 and .54.
