OK, pretty much new to ML’s from a standpoint of accuracy and performance.
Having a Vincent built with Rice barrel in 45 caliber and plan on using it primarily for target shooting and maybe an occasional hunt.
I would like to lay in a supply of percussion caps and looks to be quite a few more options than my initial experience with a TC Hawken some 40 plus years ago.
I am using Remington #10s in my Pietta 44 New Army and they are working very well
So what are the thoughts on caps for the Vincent given its primary use will be target.
CCIs or Remingtons? Standard or Mag as far as CCIs go?
This may be a “what is better, Ford or Chevy” question, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask
I would really like to lay in a good supply of some #11’s and order several other types of primers I need to stock up on at the same time to get max benefit from my Hazardous Shipping Fee.

I ue both CCI and RWS but prefer the RWS. Can count the misfires on one hand for the last 10 years and if one occurred it was not the fault of the cap. Dirty nipple, not seated properly etc.

I use Remington just because that's what I bought when I laid up a supply almost a decade ago because there was a huge sale on them at a certain store. Out of several dozen tins, I only had ONE that didn't have anything in it and saw that before using it. Otherwise, I cannot remember a having a single one not go off. Nice fit too.

I have used CCI's and Remington. I can't remember having a problem with either however I usually try to get the Remingtons.

For target shooting I use any major brand, CCI, Reminton, Winchester, or RWs. All work equally well on my rifle. Magnum or standard equally well, though some people report loss of accuracy with the CCI magnums. But for deer hunting I use only a new pack of RWS. As I believe they are less susceptable to moisture. :idunno: :idunno:

I use whatever comes to hand. Over the years I have had a number of dud in the remington #10's. I have a really old tin of the rem #11 and they all still work. I have the cci ones in #10 and 11 for my pistol. (stupid nipples, 3 need 10's and 3 need 11's) I have run into a few duds of the cci over the years but far less than other brands.
I have not used the magnum ones as every single time I have had a standard cap go off, my fire arm worked as intended, so I never saw the need for the magnum caps. I just figured they put magnum on the name and uped the charge a hair so it would bang louder and appeal to men.
Now if I start having issues with caps poping but failing to ignite my powder I obviously have a dirty weapon that should be serviced.

Whatever Wally World or Dunhams has on the shelf.

They all seem to be much-of-a-muchness to me.

as said above, pretty much what ever works.

i use remington #10 caps for my revolver cause they fit better then CCI. and i use CCI #11 caps for my rifles cause they fit well.

all brands are pretty good, just use what ever fits the best.

Well thanks to all for the replies. Looks like I will be good to go with any one of the three major brands and will get a tin of RWS and give them a try. Thanks again ...especially to Vearl...round ones! I love it! Ever ponder why the nipple wasn't made square???? Would have been just as easy given the technology of the time???

Sorry about the double posting of the question...not sure how I did that, must have hit a button twice I should not have...

I have used CCI since I started back shooting muzzleloaders 6 years ago. Pretty much because that's what seemed was available to me.I do not recall ever having a cap fail. No need for magnum caps unless you are shooting substitute powders. Our club makes a bulk purchase to minimize cost. Our last purchase of 10,000 came out to $4.00/100 caps delivered.

Yup. Whuddever you can get. Try them all to find if one works best for you. Then buy lots of that.

Around here the choice was CCI or Remington. My guns and the climate preferred CCI regulars, so I buy them by the 1k every time I can afford them. Then the store that sold Remington tanked. Those caps went on sale for a buck a tin. Now I have 5k Remingtons, too. Might not work as well as the CCI for me, but at a penny a pop I can forgive a lot.

I buy RWS if the store I`m at when I need some has them. Otherwise I just buy whatever brand they have. Can`t say I`ve ever had any really bad caps except for some CVA brand ones I had a long time ago.
