One more thought. This could be the place where "old timers" get the chance to meet up with and mentor younger, less experienced folks. A 20-something shooter with no family tradition of shooting or hunting would do well with a 60 or 70-something mentor. That mentor could be rejuvenated by spending the time helping a new shooter/hunter.

While I generally agree, the forum can open doors for relationships that grow. I've met people because of this place, like @Two Feathers who communicated by email for a time. We've since met. We don't talk weekly, but if he called with a need I'd try to be there.
Living in the Army so long you make friends that come and go in your life. They aren't out of your life but I went months or sometimes years without talking as we moved to different places for duty. When we do talk, conversations start where they left off. A forum like this can be the connection place for those "old friends" or the starting point for new ones.
Absolutely, just like I did in the days before the internet but it takes time together to establish those kinds of relationships.

Shortly after joining this forum I met @Grenadier1758 after he invited me to come check out his muzzleloading club. Very glad I did, I'm now a member there and really enjoy our monthly shoots. @rich pierce is also a member there so that makes 2 forum members I know personally.
Good for you, Grenadier1758 is a seasoned veteran of this hobby. The club he's a member of is top notch, I know several of the members.
He's asked me to come down for a visit but it's a pretty long haul for me to make when I already own my own range.

I've met and spent time in the company of two great friends on this forum. Unfortunately one of them passed away a few years ago. ADK Bigfoot is a good friend and shooting companion I really enjoy spending time with. There are a couple of other friends from another forum and from this and some other forums I've also enjoyed ongoing discussions over the months and years by email, PM and phone.

I especially enjoy the fact we have or have had forum members here from the UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Argentina and other places I can't remember off the top of my head.

When I was the Team Armourer for the U.S. International Muzzle Loading Team, I also got to meet other Team Members from around the U.S. and throughout the world. I hope some of them are also members here, but I don't know off the top of my head if they are.

Howdy folks:
I've only ever met Daryl Crawford in person. He came here to pick up a knife. Extremely nice guy, very friendly and accommodating. I can see how he got where he is in life. He's one fantastic; Christian, human being!!! I'd welcome him any time. I pert near met Gangreen? He passed right by my front door without either of us knowing it? He was kinda' lost I think? He was looking for Dave Kecks gun repair shop about 1 mile behind my place. He found his way there without issue. :thumb: :)
That's as c lose as I've gotten to meeting folks from the forum. I'd love to meet all y'all, but I know that's not possible.
God bless:
@Two Feathers

I've met one other forum member. We went in on an order for some black powder a couple of months ago.

I know several other black powder shooters in this area, but to my knowledge, none of them are active on this or the ALR forum.

You're talking about a level of friendship that isn't something a modern forum really can do
Well,,, it would seem so.
I am now very good friends with two people I initially had contact with through this forum. We all live in different states, but talk all the time.
I won't mention names because one of them won't have anything to do with this forum anymore and uses a different screen name on another forum. The other rarely comes by here and never posts anything anymore.

However, you are also touching on part of my point and impetus behind this topic.

I also tend to be reclusive. I tend towards some social anxiety issues, sometimes severe. So, I am picky whom I spend time with.
There are several other members within 30 minutes to a couple hours of me. But, I've only met the 2. Someday, hopefully, I'll make it to one of the woodswalks at Groton and meet a couple more. Then, see where my anxiety level is at for such an event.

Brokennock, I’ve not met anyone on here in person yet; however, there are several I would like to listen to while sitting around a campfire. There’sa great deal of wisdom in these halls; wisdom that I’m lacking. I seem to be more resistant of associating in crowds as I grow older; I guess some would say I have social anxiety in certain circumstances. Seems like so many people are selfish today. It’s good to get on here and just absorb the information.

No sir, that was just me realizing in a roundabout way that it wouldn't be a bad idea for us to start frequenting the regional forums more often and knowing the people around us who are the same as we are.
Yep. I fear there ain't many of us these days. Everybody c!odd to me that shoots black powder only used a inlines and all the modern plastic fantastic stuff from the chain stores. I'm not knocks my those 15th d
Join the Tennessee Muzzleloaders Facebook group and you'll find lots of muzzleloader shooters in Tennessee and the surrounding 9 states. Send a request with your name, city, state...and a zipcode is always nice to have. I publish the contact list every Sunday night or Monday morning on the group's page.
I would check into that but just don't do facebook. This forum is the closest I get to social media. If my stance on that ever changes I will look it up.

tried to reply a few minutes ago but my keyboard went crazy and then shut down. Was just gonna say there ain't many of us these days. ML guys I know all use in lines and modern gear. Not knocking them at all. It would just be nice to get together with other traditional minded folks.

Yep, its the inlines and compound bows...i have only met one traditional archery shooter since moving to this state and the only guys shooting our types of guns, I met at our area's black powder club. But there's also a lot of us working guys that dont have the luxury to attend those clubs regularly. Few and far between, and well scattered...
