who makes a good bp 12 ga.????

im wanting to add a double bbl 12 ga. to my blackpowder arsenal.id like some ideas of good ones.

I can only personally vouch for Pedersoli. I have had one of their double barrels with the interchangeable chokes for over a decade now. It has been one sweet gun. Beautiful to look at and patterns very well.

I'm prone to the Navy Arms/Pieta for it's lack of chokes, but that's not casting any stones at the Pedersolis. Of course, the Pietas haven't been made for quite a while and you have to hunt down a used one.

If not already having a Pedersoli with interchangeable chokes, I would not think twice about buying one without them either. One problem with interchangeable chokes is that when using tighter constrictions, sometimes you have to remove the choke to get the wads through. Not a big deal when turkey hunting as my shots are few and far between. With squirrel, rabbit and such, I simply go with modified and improved cylinder and do not have to remove chokes to load. Anyway, those guns are a freaking blast. I highly encourage you to get one. You will not regret it.

Pedersoli also makes several models of SxS in fixed chokes. The "old english maple" is a beautiful gun....but pricey.

I picked up a Navy Arms Pietta abour 10 or 15 yrs. ago for $100. It's been great, never felt a need for another, shoots PRBs good too.

I've always got mixed replies when asking whether or not there was enough meat in Pietta barrels for jug choking. Glad to hear you did it an it works. Truth be known, IC and MOD would be my druthers over cylinder bores.

I, myself just bought a new unfired 12 gauge CVA double from a local show.It was made in 1985. Both barrels are cyl. bored. I can't wait to try it. WW 12 gauge wads fit perfect, might be able to use steel?

It will take you awhile to establish a trap and skeet handicap with it!

Hint; don't do it on a line with others that are shooting modern guns and waiting for you to re-load! You'll have angry line-mates!

I was on a short road trip over Christmas & as they had a Cabela's I hit the bargain cave. I'm getting old & could not read the dang barrel without my glasses :shocked2: (in the truck on the otherside of the mall). But it was a 12 sxs choked. 2 small scraches in the blue on one barrel. Sold "as is" no return. They wanted a little over $500. As I say no glasses so I don't know who makes there SxS for them.

Your range is going to be a very big factor. First off pattern your gun at 15 or so yards to see if the barrels pattern where your aiming. I have a Dixie 10 that has one barrel hitting high and to the left a little, Certainly far enough to miss a turkeys head. I've tried a lot of different things to improve my pattern to at least shoot to 30 yards but I don't feel real comfortable with a shot that far. I did get my best patterns by not using the cushion wads.I tried paper and plastic wads. Plastic wasn't any good and paper didn't improve things much. But this is how my gun reacted to what I was using your shotgun may work with some of the stuff I tried who knows.. good luck.

I have had a double pedersoli for years. My only problem with it is it shoots to tight a pattern. Would be better of with cyl. bore. Sure is fun to hunt with.
