Drew a "once in a lifetime"cow moose permit. Drew the bull in 2000. This is the first year for cow tags, they gave out 40. Trying to make an Alaska type canoe adventure out of it but have the mules for back-up.

Hoyt, how do you apply for those "Passenger Pigeon" tags? From what I've heard those are hard trophys to come by.

Last season I drew a moose permit in New Hampshire. Shot a nice bull( I used a handgun)

This year we were all shocked. My mother drew a New Hampshire moose permit. I am her subpermittee so I am allowed to shoot the moose as long as I am in sight of her. So I will be hunting moose again in the Granite State.

Sounds like the "control" type people had a hand in that legislation.

A law abiding citizen pays her money for a license, and then for a tag...the wildlife management aspects of it all are satisfied.

What possible difference on this planet does it make to anyone or anything...since she can legally give it to another hunter who can legally use it as her subpermittee...to insist that she also be in the woods "in sight of each other"...Unbelieveable!!

And it's right up there with our states law that says I can't carry a handgun...forget USE a handgun...can't even CARRY a handgun during the bow or ML seasons...talk about being considered guilty ahead of time!!

Are all politicians stupid or do just stupid people become politicians???????

:shake:

I just thought I would throw that remark in there..cause it's about as easy to get a limit of passenger pigeons as it is to get a limit of bucks in those areas. Nuther words..just cause the limit is 2 bucks a day in there..don't mean much. I hunted a whole yr. and didn't see but 1 buck yr. before last.

I can see a point, maybe not the point. By insisting she be there they have prevent the tag from being sold to the highest bidder on e-bay, or whatever. A dead moose is still a dead moose as far as herd control for the state, but it does seem it will keep it to friends and family and less commercial.

On the other hand, it still gives a guide the chance to draw one and sell the shot to a client.

What you won't get is the non-hunters making the permits a commodity of trade. States don't like any money trading hands that they don't get a chunk of.

NH makes it illegal to sell or barter the permit. So you cannot sell it, so to speak , to someone as a subpermittee.

The big thing will be that my mom has some medical issues and really can't walk. So we'll cruise the timber roads and see what happens.

Stumpy and Bigbore...I guessed as much that there was probably something like that in their thinking, but by the same token, it's already pretty much illegal to sell/transfer most any kind of license as it is, or exceed the bag limits, etc.

My personal issue with the permittee/sub-permittee example is that it's a form of "legislated morality" which assumes I'm already guilty of something, can't be trusted to follow the laws, etc...and I hate that mentality being lorded over good honest citizens
:m2c:

roundball...don't forget, ya got turkey-boar & bear too :) Ya can pick your license up anytime now. I got mine today (sportsman..$40.00) with all of the tags on it. No need to wait till July this year (at least here). Good luck.

Now that you mention it, I remember hearing something about that last year, that they were going to do something different this year...although, I was just on their web site last night and everything still shows 2004-2005...I also get the sportsman license every year

PS: Under their 'News' section, there're quite a few changes in the regs for this this coming year...

Florida has special management area quota hunts and special opportunity hunts..plus the regular quota hunts. It's a real big deal for the public land hunters and the system can be and is beat to death. The permits are transferable but can't be sold (another joke..just trade a treestand or handgun for the permit..etc.it's expected). The state makes a killing off of them because the more applications you buy and submit the better your odds are. Some people hate them and some love them. On the special quota hunts you can buy all the $26.00 (I think) quota hunt permit applications you want and just use different names to submit..some use their dog's name..etc. However you will get a lot of the same permits..then you have to get into the permit trading forums and swap for the ones you want and didn't get picked for..etc.
On the Special Opportunity hunts..you just put in all the $5.00 applications you can afford to up your odds..and if you get picked you pay the $200.00 or so to hunt a couple days on your public land.
I just go to the poor man's public land and deal with it.

I got drawn for a New Mexico Bull Elk tag last year. Not a ML bull but my 3rd choice, the 3rd season. It still would have been a good hunt.
At the last minute my job stopped me from going. I ate that $481.00 not really but after awhile I got tired of seeing it and threw it away.
I tried not to let it bother me seeing as I have taken several bulls in the past. It would have bothered me a lot if it had of been a Muzzle loader tag.
As it was it left a bad taste and I didn't apply for nothing this year. If I decide to go somewhere I'll go to Colorado where I can buy a tag over the counter after I get there.

Interesting...and you're probably not the first person that has had a sudden conflict come up...work, medical, etc.

I wonder if any states that have these "draws" have options for people who have an unavoidable conflict arise...like a "turn-in" for refund and resale to the next person on the list...or to be used for the following year, etc?

roundball..thanks, I'll give it a read even though I haven't been hunting in probably 20 or so years...I just buy a license every year in which ever state I'm living in. Might get back into it this year, now that I'm dusting off my MLs and looking for a flinter. We'll see.

Drew a Columbia Basin buck mule deer tag for this year. Already picked up my general bear season tag as that's going to be my muzzleloader hunt for this year.

Have to wait for July 29 for results on Arizona archery bull elk. If I don't get drawn, I'll at least have some bonus points built up for a practical shot at drawing a ML tag next year. AZFG is sure making things technical this year for nonresidents in light of the lawsuit over the cap on nonresidents :shake:.

Arizona Game & Fish won't put out the word until late July. I put in for elk, deer and antelope. Paid $5 apiece to get my bonus points for buffalo and desert bighorn sheep, but didn't apply this year-- too busy to devote a solid month to bighorns, and the only hunt unit for buffalo this year (Raymond Ranch) requires that a G&F employee take you out in a truck and point out the one he/she wants you to shoot. I'll wait till next year.
