I got a pack of 12 1/2" X 5/8" English flints knapped by Tom Fuller at TOTW. I would like to try some 5/8" x 5/8" (maybe in French Amber) but TOTW is out of stock. Who are your favorite suppliers online or local? Do you prefer English or French or other types of Flint, Chert or Amber?

I've used the Fuller flints and they're excellent. But I've also used flints from several other sources with complete satisfaction. Bad flints are out there but they don't stay in business long.

ToTW does a good job of sorting Fuller flints when you specify 'flat only' or no humps, and on rare occasion when one or 2 slip by, they're quick to resend the "right" one.
I've gotten some of the French amber flints, since I wanted them specifically for a Fusil de Chasse, but they seem more brittle. The Fuller flints last longer.

I buy bulk and I buy in person. I go to a market fair and pick out my flints. I have a whole mason jar at home that I use to hold them all, and buy as many as a dozen when I can pick them out and find that many. They are not going to "expire" as time goes on and the price is only going to go up..., so...

I only use French Amber these days. I get mine from Troy at Stonewall Creek Outfitters.
I ordered the famous black English from TOTW once....ONCE.
I found out where they send all the "Humpy" ones they have left over when you guys apparently have specified "Flat".
I had no idea they would ship only "flat" on request. I suppose that's on me but it left a sour taste in my mouth nonetheless. I found Troy, and haven't looked elsewhere ever since.

Thanks and good to know they'll resend flints if you get a humpy one.

Excellent another supplier I wasn't aware of. Thanks!

I'm looking forward to when I can get out to some Rendezvous and black powder shows and pick out my own. Thanks!
