I have tried to refrain from my following answer but I can't help myself.

Because a square bullet doesn't fit in a round barrel.

Its a zen koan thingie, "What is the sound of one had clapping..."

 to all you said with "I would say, as always, shoot what makes YOU happy." this being the best all I can add is PRB are good out to 200 yards with the right gun, load, sight's and shooter and has been for a few 100 years. :hatsoff: Fred

This was a ende to end shot? ha cal was it ( Ive seen a few but the ball looked much more flaten.) Great shooting  Fred :hatsoff:

It's no crime to talk something other than PRB's here..as long as it's not the newst this weeks tank killing ??bullet?? for those other guns, we get into REAL's, Buff Bullets, ect. I shot those for years out of 1 X 66 twist rifles since 1971 couldnt stand the time it took to load ball's. Then sometime 115 or so years ago I slowed down, and it's been a rare day I've shot anything but round balls, I like the slow easy going pace of it. Not much help but a real answer, hope it help's. Fred :hatsoff:

I was hesitant to use a prb at first too. I shoot a traditions kentucky 50 cal with a slow twist barrel. several deer and one black bear later, i cannot see me bow hunting or going back to modern arms

Have not seen an octagon bore but do have a hex bore. Don't have a mold for it, might need to use PRBs.

Dixie also sold the bullets for 20 something for 50 I think it was, may till do since they sell the rifle ( 451 about) Fred :hatsoff:

If it is a Witworth I seem to remember hearing on another site.

The bullets can be a stich to make, size and load.

At some point Mr. Withworth recommended loading a regular conical bullet and letting the soft lead bullet fill the groves.

This was a while ago guys so go easy one me here.
