P/C: Keep at it. You seem to be doing fine. I dropped 20 pounds and several blood pressure points on the Atkins diet a year ago. Why settle for 20 years? I'm 72 and still planning on at least 10 more hunting and fishing. graybeard :peace:

I have been making cartridge boxes and other leather goods. I am with StumpKiller, I like to feel the leather before I want to buy it. Just got a side that I am not happy about, but I am finding some ways of using it up. Maybe make some saddlebags to finish it off.

I also made some antler powder measures from some kills and sheds. I also made cross sticks from South American Redwood. Massaronduba. Finishes with a waxy texture and turns either a pretty reddish mahogony or an odd orange when oiled. The result is obvious before you work it.

I now have the bug to make a flintlock pistol from a kit. Studying styles along the lines of the Pedersoli Kentucky.

I built a Vincent rifle about 10 years ago in .40 cal it was a fun project and a great shooting gun. A real classic looking half stock.

I had lots of help from the Log Cabin Shop in Lodi, Ohio and Golden Arms of Delaware, Ohio. Golden Arms had a builder book with extensive research on Caleb Vincent and lots of pictures of his guns. Sadly, Golden Arms closed several years ago.

Your right about Buchele's book a real must if your going to build your own long gun.

Vincent copies are popular enough around here that the Log Cabin Shop has assembled a group of parts that can be bought similar to a kit. They also have a small display of antique weapons with several Vincent originals.

Good luck getting back into shape. I'm sure losing weight can't be easy, but the importance of your health can't be underestimated.

P/Cobra,

Stick to it.

My neighbor was very disappointed that he did not get out once this past year to deer hunt. It's the first year since he was 12 that he did not at least get out and try.

He's 98 years old this year!

Best wishes for a successful outcome.

Deer season is in 'till the end of January, so I am going to try to make it out one last time. Turkey comes in March 15th, so I don't have too long to wait until I can shoot somethin' I can eat. I guess I'll practice on coyotes 'till then. I hear they taste like chicken :haha:

Actually, I'll probably go full bore on the honey do list after deer season so I can justify going hunting for turkey. I hope to get a BP shotgun before then, but I'm not holding my breath. The LOML may have something different to say about that. One can dream, I guess!

My two cents.

Not sure about coyote, but bobcat tastes like bobcat. Not sure if it was just the idea of eating a cat or not. I didn't tell the wife and grandaughter what it was till after they ate it, so i guess it was just that it tastes like bobcat. ::
