Several people have commented on the smell. It’s oil of wintergreen. I put a few grams in my mutton tallow/beeswax mix.

I had poor results using it until I discovered it works best , to cover a patch , and rub the excess off before seating the ball.

I've been successfully using it ever since it was first introduced in the early 1980's.

The only caveat is that if conicals are lubed with it, the lube will dry out & turn chalky after a few years ( I bought a 15 year supply of pre-lubed Maxi-Hunter;s for $1/ box of 50, from a gun shop that was closing) - I just dig out the old lube & apply some new lube.

Wonder lube and Bore Butter. What it's not, is total garbage. It is also not the greatest stuff for black powder guns known to man. It works for some things and not so well for others. It varies greatly on how you are using it and what you are using it on, whether or not you like the smell, if you have let it dry out for several years, if you used way too much or way too little, what you melted and mixed in with it, your patch thickness and material, what you were drinking that day and what you chose to believe from the internet black powder forums. Really, all anyone SHOULD say, is, "I tried it for_______ and didnt like the results". Because the next guy, sure as heck, is gonna say "I use it for ________ and it works great!" Just like Ballistol, G-96, Barricade, Break free CLP, CP-7 and 30 weight motor oil. Spend a few bucks and try it if you are interested and find out for yourself if you like it or not. There is no one perfect product.

G96 and Murphy's Soap Mix (one part Murphy's Soap, one part IPA ( 90% ), and one part Hydrogen Prox I stop using hot water and soap mix cleans much better and less mess :thumb: Final cleaning with G96 Also use Moose Juice for lub,, it's easy to make and also easy to keep. 91 % IPA, 4 tablespoon, Caster Oil 1 1/2 tablespoon, Murphy Soap 1 1/2 tablespoon, Witch Hazlie 2table spoon, water 1/2 cup (cold)

Never had any luck with Wonder Lube. I use a mixture of water, dish soap, and murphy's oil soap in a little bottle. It's 9 parts water, 1 part murphy's and a drop or two of dish soap. I dampen (not soak) the patch a little from the bottle. If it is so cold that the bottle or patch will rapidly freeze, I have small tin of mink oil tallow from Track of the Wolf for those really cold conditions.

Everything causes cancer in California. It's a toxic environment. T'aint fit for man nor beast. I know, I lived there once upon a long time ago
Why I wont live in California. It is a toxic state! I'm a die-hard Yankee anyway.

I used wonder lube one time a long time ago at a match.
Couldn't remember what lube I put on my bullets so I wrote wonder lube on my equipment list. It worked great even though I've always heard negative comments about it.
Is it the same as Bore Butter?

I think they're the same. Methinks TC 1000+ is the same stuff too. I used 1000 for a very long time. Only reason I quit was the price got so out of hand. I had excellent results and accuracy with it.

I feel very strongly that consistency in applying lube is more important than the lube itself.
