I'm sure you recall the dialog:
"Look o'er thar! Ain't that ole' Grundgy ah lying thar in tha dirt?
"Sure looks line him an' look! He war shot in the back by some low life, yeller-bellied varmit....."
There's no doubt in my mind, he meant to say "yellow-bellied marmot .
The moral of this is, if your hunting them, keep a sharp eye over your shoulder. You never know when a yellow-bellied marmot might be getting his sights set on the small of your back.
