I made one a couple of months ago. Look up Alaskan Pack Frame, pack frame, and pack board, and read all that you find.
Basically, I made mine with a combination of features of the Alaskan pack frame and the US Army pack board of the WWII era. Really hard to make - took me all of two hours. LOL That includes time to paint it with some left-over green housepaint.
I'm getting on in years, but I still prefer to hunt the backcountry. I can no longer drag out a whole big buck. Those two wheeled deer carts don't work well on steep mountainsides and in thick timber. I'm in the south now, where we seldom get snow, so I can't use my old toboggan that I had made when I lived in Michigan. So, I made the pack board, thinking I will quarter whatever big game I take, and pack it out in pieces.
Since I was fully prepared, naturally this year I never fired a shot!
