Have only used hard cards in my colerain turkey barrel and the suggestions on a previous post also called for cards. I read that wool wads can give better patterns and increased range. Any experience or thoughts on this? Thanks

I use 1/4" wool wads soaked in lube between the powder and ball or shot. Gives good accuracy and it scrubs the bore each time you load so you don't have to wipe between shots. I get the felt from Durafelt and then punch them out myself before soaking them in the melted lube. I top my loads with thin cardboard cards.

I have used scrap wool that I punch out and then dip in hot wax to stiffen them up a bit. Never did any kind of comparison with regular wads but they work and I have lots of scrap wool and old candle stubs.

Larry, let me make a suggestion. Try lubing your felt sheet before punching the wads. Just spread the lube evenly on the sheet of felt and then put it in the microwave for a few seconds to melt the lube into the felt. Then punch your wads. If you use a liquid lube, just use a spray bottle to spray an even coat of lube onto the uncut sheet of felt, let is sit to completely absorb the lube and then punch your wads. Doing it this way is less messy and quicker and will ensure that your wads are all evenly lubed.
