I have shot a 45 competitively for years and like Rifleman1776 I shoot a 55 grain charge because that’s what shoots best. I use that charge for everything, deer to squirrels.
I think having a 100 yard load for hunting is pointless. Most people can’t even judge a 100 yards within 10% accuracy. Shooting the same load creates a certain consistency. It is far easier to adjust you aim than to adjust your load. 1 gun, 1bullet, 1powder, 1patch,1charge,”¦.1shot!
 
65 grains FFFg and .44 ball was my load in the seventies. My current small bore flinter uses .453 ball and the same carved powder measure with Jacks Battle.
