Would you trust these threads?

I had the same thing happen to me with a TC White Mountain Carbine that I bought off a guy several years back. Before shooting it, I replaced the nipple with a brand new 1/4 x 28 Tres Ampco nipple. When I shot for the first time the nipple flew back thru my hair missing my scalp.(thank God) The hammer flew back denting my stock as well.
I ordered a .255 tap and a .260 tap from TOW. I also ordered some new .260 nipples. I used the .255 tap first, followed up with the .260 tap. The new .260 nipples fit great and my WMC shoots great.

Looks like grandpa belonged to the "I take the nipple out every time I clean" bunch. This is the results.

Removing nipples whose threads have been lubricated every time you shoot does not wear them out. More damage due to galling when you have to remove a nipple that has never been pulled.

And maybe I can sell the taps afterwards to recoup some of my money.

I recapped one with the .255 tap and bought the correct nipple from Track. It seemed like Track wanted to sell the taps in sets of three so I ordered the tap online for just a couple bucks. I don't remember who I ordered from but most suppliers have them.

I have always taken the nipple out and used to use RIG grease and then switched to anti seize grease. No problems. Better than all the corrosion in the threads and underneath.

I make all my nipples that don’t engage with a flat or tapered seat as in the manner illustrated.

I remove the nipple and clean everything the same day whenever I shoot my sidelocks, every time.
I use a 22. cal nylon brush with wrapped in a patch with cleaner to clean the breech plug threads where the nipple screws in.
I cover all my threads with breech plug grease as well as wrapping nipple threads with teflon tap. I never get a stuck or hard to remove nipple with this ritual. Plus , the nipple and threads clean up extra easy with all the extra protection.

I have 30 year old new Englander nipple comes out every cleaning.
dab of white grease when it goes back in.
Still safe and solid after all these years.
Some may say never take it out. I disagree. Holy Black being corrosive will eventually creep into the threading so that comes the time you have to take it out it is putting pressure on threading that may already be c

But were those blow outs cause by removing the nipples for routine cleaning or are they from being over torqued, corroded in, wrong thread size, cross threaded, etc. ? I would say those were cases of "operator error" , not from removal during cleaning.
