I do agree about the sight radius being very important if only target shooting with irons. I personally am slightly blind in my right eye and went to peeps many years ago to stay in the game. I got a bunch of flak about that at the time. Ok, whatever, I still shoot a lot. It may actually enhance his gun's value. Ya never know as I have had some nice offers for this one and some requests to shorten barrels from other members here. We have lost enough of our folks as it is. If it bothers his back to carry it hunting it is much better to make it work for him.

OK Thank you all for all the great answers. JUst got out of surgery 3 weeks ago and still taking it easy . always wanted a gm barrel have shooting sticks and a great range to shoot at and have a target rifle that ways 6 lbs. might not have to cut this barrel havve too wait and see.

Fwiw, I do believe the standard barrel length for the TC Renegade was 26”, and my .54 wollups whatever it hits!!
I would not hesitate to shorten if it’s what I desired. My good friend Old Ugly just built himself a 20” barrel .54 flinter, which we just sighted in yesterday. Not only a gorgeous home built muzzlegun (with wood from his own property, and several hand built parts), but extremely accurate as well!

Would you cut a green mountain barrel shorter to make it lighter. It's 15/16 across the flats 32 inches long, but with my back hard to hold up.

I myself have added a few years on an have had a few bad injuries that made me like lighter guns. And have cut down several of my guns to make them easier to handle, and at the same time easier to use in heavy timber. And they still shoot straight.
