Yearly powder usage

Ahhh! Well forgive me for assuming :grin: Whatever your reasoning, I wish I had the patience to be half that detailed. I'd probably have my hawken shooting one ragged hole at 50 by now if I could be so disciplined. Alas, I go to the range these days as a form of therapy. The process of loading and firing my ml, and the focus it requires to be halfway decent, helps me to decompress after a week of work, family, and bills.

:hatsoff: Yes; yes it is!! I try to keep a good stock so I can shoot even if I'm short on cash that month. But I daresay I probably don't have your back-stock!

I would use about 1 and 1/2 kegs a year. the last few years I slowed up to about 1/2 keg.

About 2 pounds this past nine months. Didn't shoot BP for several years before that but a new outdoor range opened up and bingo ... white smoke again. Really slow right now (wind, wind and more wind) but should pick up in about a month, I hope.

Im an accountant, I considered the same thing but Im too damn lazy to take that detailed a note in a recreational hobby.

Myself as well: 25 years as a manufacturing cost accountant/analyst, four years as a municipal comptroller and now a business manager.

No part of shooting or hunting is financially viable (if you pursue it legally). But it sure is fun!

Im past month my brother and I shot 4 pounds. That will not drop off untill the end of the black powder league. So two more months. As it stands between the two 12+ pounds a year. But each of us got two additional calibers so who knows!

a keg is 25 lb. comes in one box. you put it your own cans. you save about 2-3 dollars a pound.

In the early 90s I shot about 5 lbs BP per year out of my MLs. Late 90s started shooting BPCR as well and the usage went up to 25 to 30 lbs of BP per year. The last ten years my shooting has dropped to about 2 to 3 lbs total per year.

The whole reasoning behind it initially was to see, which patch-lube-ball combo gave the best groupings and results...Then it became a habit, and fun to see my shooting improve... It helps to shoot a bit competitive against myself...

I will go through about 20 pounds a year. With my cannons, when blank firing i use 50/50 black powder non dairy creamer. Live fire i have to use all powder. My small arms use up about 5 to 6 pounds.

As for grouping good luck with a smooth bore cannon at 100 yards.
And my mortar a good group is 10 feet in diameter
