First one I bought was in 1981 and I still have it.
It's a T/C Hawken .45cal percussion.
First one I shot back in the 70's was a Lyman .45cal GPR.
I was 14yrs old at the time.

my grandmother gave me my first muzzleloader for my 18th birthday in 1981,a .32cal CVA squirrel rifle. it's still my favorite squirrel gun.

In the year of 1990 I bought an .45 Investarm Hawken from a local trader. I saw it and I love it. Having no bp licence at this time I took the rifle. It was a cap gun. Then I went to a bp-club near my town in order to shoot there. But people there were not very friendly. They told me stories like "you are not allowed to load the gun on your own, we are high score shooters and so have no time to load for you, bla, bla." So I stopped my plan and started again in 1995, making the bp-handling course, got a bp license and then was able to load and shoot on my own without these "helpful" guys.

I bought a kit for a Traditions Kentucky flinter that I still have and enjoy.... Maybe not the fanciest or most PC, but a lot of fun and a great introduction to shooting.....

Kirrmeister, es tut mir leid das die erste Leute war nicht sehr nett... (I'm sorry the first folks weren't very nice). Whew, hope my German's not too bad. Swing on over to this side of the pond some time for some lower-stress range time.... :)

My first muzzle loader was a 50 cal. CVA Hawken caplock. I bought it and its brother used from a guy I worked with in 1995. I later sold them both to my brother who still has them.

my 1st BP experience was a uberti 1860 replica in 36 cal. Very nice shooter but no one told me you have to us a wad and some crisco to keep the other chambers form firing all at once. Sure wish id have know about this forum back then. Its all good I still have all my fingers.

My first M/L was a Hawken Hunter from Cabela's in .54. I still have it and shoot it. My second M/L I bought from a neighbor at a garage sale. It's a T/C Renegade, also in .54. This one I shoot the most, and is my primary hunting rifle. I would like to get something in .36 eventually but am trying to figure out what I want for a B/P revolver. I have shot both the Colt and Remington repo's and each have their pro's and con's. I am leaning toward the '58 Remington at the moment.

I got my first, a CVA Kentucky .45 cal., in 1979, from OTASCO. In about 85 I was in Union City TN a picked up a new stock from Dixie to replace that two-piece job I never liked, plus converted it to flint. Only thing left of the original kit is the barrel, sideplate and trigger. Barked quite a few tree-rats with it and a nice buck a few years back.
Got interested in building when I learned my immigrant ancestor came to America from Holland in 1647, set up a sawmill on Wynant's Kill NY (named for him)near Troy and was a gunstocker and cabinet maker (kistenmaeker - hence my moniker). Never saw an example of his work, but there might be a couple Hudson River fowlers out there he stocked some'eres

My first muzzel loader is a .50 T/C hawkens that I got for xmass from my wife I was and am 41 and I think she unleashed a dragon because Im looking to by a flinter kit in .54. Dave T.

22 caliber matchlock. Made all of it, and it was ugly. It did shoot Benjamin 22 caliber pellets into penny sized groups at 50". I was about 13.

I bought my first ML, a .50 caliber GPR, last spring and am already addicted. I used it exclusively this last hunting season and can't see picking my centerfire back up anytime in the future.

My 1st muzzleloader was a cheap Spanish 28 guage smoothbore with a half stock and a steel rammer. I was about 14 yrs old. I think it set me back 54.00 Canadian...lol. Purchased it in about '76 and used it mostly with .50 cal round balls. I lived in the hills and we had no TV to fill the time. No one I knew at the time was into front-stuffers, so I had to learn on my own, from what I could read on the subject. I shot thousands of rounds with that old cap buster, as I was free to roam the hills with gun and dog. Some of my heros were Daniel Boone, the Mountain Men, and young Jim, from Treasure Island.
