I believe there was a photo of one of these in George Nonte's "Black Powder Guide" that I purchased ca. 1972.

I saw your posts in the "Do I have a Hawken" thread when talking to Phil. This one came up and even though I really don't need an other rifle it was something I thought I should buy.
Nice find, @andy52 ! I've never had the opportunity to handle one of those, or even see detailed photos. That clean out screw in the breech, opposite the snail, is a most unusual but very practical feature.
Those Allen Hawkens are historically significant in their own right, as a 20th century interpretation of a classic 19th century rifle. You got a really nice one, too. Thanks for showing it!

Thanks, Bob if it hadn't been for the Hawken thread here I wouldn't have known enough about the Allen Hawken to give it a second glance. The photos I post are from the seller when I receive the rifle I'll take some more detailed ones.

The amount of wood around the lock plates looks a little silly but other than that nice rifle!
Most of the Hawken reproductions of that era were very beefy. GRRW, Ithica, and Allen guns were much the same in-stock design. Here's a couple of photos of GRRW that are similar in the profile.

I agree they make nice guns. Not cheap though.
True, I've only seen pictures of the Lyman signature series made by Pedersoli but they look outstanding. That set of dueling pistols were just a tad over 3k when they came out and I think the Great Plains rifle they make for Lyman is about 1695.00 MSR.

No, it's $930. That's what mine is. Lyman does nothing but have their name on it. I call it a Pedersoli because they make it. It's the same gun as the Pedersoli walnut Rocky Mountain Rifle but has a 32" barrel instead of 34 5/8" and it's blued instead of browned. I believe deep blued is more accurate to the real Hawken. The 32" barrel is heavy enough for me. I'd really struggle if it was 2 5/8" longer.

Yes, same gun but a maple stock. They sure make you pay for that wood. It seems to me that the real Hawken used a plain stock. Maybe my memory is failing again but does someone have a picture of a real Hawken with highly figured maple stock?
Photos aren't hard to find but most original Hawkens had maple stocks.
Just as a side note we're talking about photos of guns that are almost 200 year old so the wood will look well worn.

Maple but still plain without curl. Can you show us one?
