O no, what a shame. I was just watching a video when he was a young man. May he rest in peace

Sic transit gloria mundi.
He has been such an inspiration to so many! Terry Pratchett wrote “No one is finally dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away, until the clock wound up winds down, until the wine she made has finished its ferment, until the crop they planted is harvested. The span of someone's life is only the core of their actual existence.”
By that measure, Mr. House will never really be gone.

Also a member of Hershel's FB group, and was one of his "friends" there too .....we corresponded, first by old fashioned letters, then on FB. ......he was a hero to so many, and got so many of us interested in ML rifles.....my regret is that we never got to meet face to face.......but, we'll meet some day on the streets of glory........rest easy my friend.

As sad as his passing is, the muzzleloading community was fortunate to have his skills for many years.

A hundred years from now, maybe even two hundred years, omeone will be holding a House Longrifle, admiring the craftsmanship, and wondering about (perhaps researching) the man who made it.

He had a gift that transcends his passing. Many of us, myself included, will not be so fortunate. But, a select few, like Mr House, become etched in history.

This is very sad news and a major loss to the entire muzzleloading fraternity.
Hershel will be sorely missed, but he will continue to serve as a beacon for serious adherents of muzzleloading. Now he is in the company of Boone, Crockett, Kenton, Ned Roberts,. and so many more. I was privileged to know him and admire his work. Condolences to all.

I'm a member of the "Hershel House Longrifles and Such" group on Facebook. A group admin posted that Hershel House went home at 6:32PM.

We are diminished.

R I P ! There’s nothing prettier than one of his long-rifles, beautiful!
