We've had the discussion about the shelf life of black powder.And if I recall it lasts a long time. So how long do regular firecrackers last? I got some BlackCats that are over 25 years old and they still go bang.

I suppose as long as they are stored in a cool dry place free of humidity they would last a very long time. I have some from my younger days, found them in the closet at my parents house and they still go bang. Maybe even a little older than yours.
I saved one pack back for the 4th of July and in the interest of science I want to see how many of my fainting goats fall over when I set them off. In a real redneck hold my beer moment at Thanksgiving, I've gotten better than half of them to faint just by running at them and yelling. Firecrackers and lighter are ready for an audience of friends on the 4th!

Daresay only REALLY OLD guys lived in the days of actual, bonified, honest-to-goodness Cherry Bombs, M-80;s, (AKA Silver Salutes) when they were legal and available at fireworks stands. Those I saved almost had to have been from the summer of 1962. Mixed somehow with nearly identical "smoke bombs", our nephew got the surprise of the week when he swiped some left-over fireworks and lit off smoke bombs. Forty years later, they would still blow off fingers. He was lucky. Flash powder? Have no clue as to what it really is. Silver-looking stuff.

Gonna get me in trouble Louis. I've got about 1/2 a brick of old black cats stashed away. One of the preferred methods for use was cutting a pop can in half, poking a hole in the bottom, inserting firecracker, placing in a round bowl of water, lighting the fuse and when she blew, shoot the can with a shotgun. The good ol days. Probably call the SWAT team now and days.
