Pietta Remington Pocket Model screw thread questions

Hi I’m looking for info on the trigger guard screw for this model. Anyone know what the thread size is?

I’m looking to get a slightly longer screw and perhaps one with a slightly larger head on it for a modification I plan to make.

VTI might have what you need. I have one but don't have any way of measuring. I was looking for parts for an ASM and was told by VTI to substitute Pietta parts. I ordered a hammer, trigger, bolt and hand. I'll find out next week if they work or will need modifications.

Sounds like you are looking for a custom-made screw. For this you most likely need to visit a machine shop and have it made to your specifications if you don't have the means to make one yourself. A thread gauge (most likely metric) and a digital caliper will help also.. My quick guess is that the thread pitch is a special fine pitch - just a guess.

The loading lever screw is the same size, just longer. I also lost the trigger guard screw on mine. Had a screw laying around the same size but longer. Just had to cut it shorter.

Yes on Metric. You can get right thread but not right head at ACE. Those are pretty soft screws and you need a very good screwdriver not to mess the heads up. If really tight you might still mess the heads up.

You talking about Ace Hardware? Any idea what the thread size/pitch is?

Not on a modern Pietta Remington Pocket, are you talking about the larger frames? The loading lever screen on the Pocket is about twice the thickness of the trigger guard screw

Im talking the small 1863. Mine is an ASM, might be different. But the loading lever screw is the same threads but longer. Tiny little things.

I made a screw for mine. The screw was longer and the head was larger. I chucked it in my drill and used a file and sand paper to make the head smaller and then cut it to the length I needed.

Yeah the trigger guard screw on a Pietta pocket is way smaller than that. It’s smaller than 4-40 thread. I’ve been considering drilling and tapping to make it 4-40 actually, as I have a large supply of screws in that thread.

Anyone here have luck trying this on a steel frame Pietta?

Yes I have, I had to tap the threads to the next size up. But the screw I used was longer and the head was larger. Did the same thing. Chucked it on my drill and filed the head to fit. It protruded a little so i filled the head down also. Polished and blued. Worked good.
Not my first and probably not the last. Ive done that for a lot of different things. I learned that from working on antique engines. A lot of bolts, nuts and screws are obsolete. As well as other parts.
I just got through fitting a Pietta hammer and trigger on an ASM 1863 and used a hand off an 1851.

Yes ACE and other than an 1858 Rem NMA on the front sight, I do not know. Easy enough to check.
