finished my fowler

I wanted a flintlock shot gun to hunt squirrels with. I wanted it dark and after the first treatment of lye it was a pretty color but still a little blonde. I hit it again and it tuned really dark. I have put 4 Kiblers together this year and have a 5th coming. The fowler was by far the easiest and my only problem was that I could not see the front sight at all. I ordered a thicker blade but was really worried about messing up the barrel soldering it on. While I was waiting on the new sight to come in I noticed a #5 shot pellet was exactly the same size as the bead on my Red Label . I files a grove in the front sight and JB welded a nickle plated pellet . I figure if it doesnt work, I will man up and solder the new thicker sight on. I drew a squirrel on a box and backed off 25 yards. I was tickled with the pattern and believe I will be able to give the cat squirrels fits come October,

Looks good. Question on middle pic of top row whats on the wrist area almost looks like glue.

i had just cleaned it and that is lock oil I missed

What bluing solution/process did you use?

Nothing 'foul' about this fowler! So handsome, classic, as sleek in it's own way as a modern F-35 jet sitting on a runway...coloration excellent!

The tiger maple striping we see so often is nice, of course, but there's so much can be done with plainer finishes such as this. Sometimes it gets a little boring to keep seeing 'striped' everything. I like the "painted" trade guns, too.

I put a heavy coat of EZ Off and left it for 5 minutes then washed it off.
It was light than I wanted so I applied a second treatment

I then used 6 coats of chambers oil and 2 coats of dark wax
The one below is with one coat of EZ Off

Makes me want to get one, Nice Build.

That came out really nice, I like it.
