Yeah, that stock is a real beauty. The pattern reminds me of pine bark.
 
The burl is beyond fantastic! I think it is Circassia walnut. Possibly from the root of the tree. The carver really knew his business. Notice the grain straightens out at the wrist for strength.
 
FYI for those that find the Loudon vs Birmingham debate interesting.
