That is awesome, how much lighter is the 54 than the 50?Yesterday I received a new .54 caliber barrel for my Investarm Cabela's Hawken from muzzle-loaders.com. They sell the same rifle as the Bridger Hawken. The new barrel is so marked, so I guess it's now a Bridger Hawken. The original barrel is a .50 and I want to shoot a bigger, heavier round ball with a better chance for complete pass throughs on large whitetail.
I zeroed the new barrel today at 50 yards with .530 balls in 0.018" ticking patches on top of 80 grains of 2Fg Scheutzen BP. Like my Investarm Gemmer Hawken, it likes this load. The 6 shot group includes 3 shots lubed with Mr. Flintlock and 3 lubed with Mink Oil Tallow from Track of the Wolf.
Note the first two shots which were in one hole. This barrel will shoot!

I recovered about half my patches. All looked good with no cutting or burnout. I've read where new Investarm barrels may cut patches but none of the few that I own have done so. Perhaps I lucked out.
I put about 25 - 30 shots through it today. For the final 5, I shot offhand. By that time I was tired and the recoil was getting to me but this is certainly minute-of-deer.

Finally, today I received in the mail a .54 coning tool from Joe Wood (flintsteel on MLF). I plan to cone the muzzles of my .54 Gemmer Hawken and this barrel, for easier loading. I've done a couple .50s with another one of his tools and they work great.

He’s doing great!!My son and I worked on shaping his first powder horn together. I think he’s done well.

Thank you. Its a Sitting Fox kit. There was a lot of wood work but it came together really well. That looks great! Was that a kit or did you piece it together?
That’s a great looking gun. I’ve been eyeing that kit, please let us know how it shoots.Thank you. Its a Sitting Fox kit. There was a lot of wood work but it came together really well.
The lock was mostly inlet but the pan location put the touch hole exactly 1/8" off the face of the breech plug......really good fit up on their part. All in all Im pleased with their kits.
