Who is using Schutzen 3F in the .50 cal flinters and what’s your winning formula for grains, patch and ball?
What’s shoot-zen best for you?

My flinter loves Goex but don’t have much and tough to get. Schutzen I have lots.
 
I use Scheutzen 2f and 3f both in flintlock .60 and .62 smoothbores and a .50 caliber percussion. In the .50 I use 60 grains of either one with a thin patched .490 round ball. There’s a little difference between the two but not enough to matter to me.

Since I used up all my Goex, Scheutzen is all I use.

Is that close enough?
 
I've used Scheutzen 3F and nothing wrong with it, though since I used it all up I'm just using Swiss now. It's probably completely anecdotal and subjective, and no way I can prove it, but I think the Swiss might be just a tad hotter and cleaner in my guns.
 
Believe it or not my green mountain 1:70
Twist will shoot a powerbelt over 80 grains of 3f Scheutzen just fine as well as a patched round ball over 70 grains. I agree with PathfinderNC being a cleaner powder as well 👍
 
60 grs Schuetzen 3F with .490" ball and .015" lubed patch in my Traditions 1:66 Kentucky rifle. I see no difference between Schuetzen or Goex other than schuetzen seems to leave slightly less fouling.

I’d say if your using Goex 3f I’d start with same grains of schutzen in 3f and you probably won’t find any difference between the 2 of them .

I can't say hotter or not from my experience, but sure will go with cleaner on the Swiss.

I use it in 3f for the main and primer in all of my rifles. Zero misfires and only one hang fire, which was 100% on me. My flint loosened and only one tiny corner caught the frizzen. It still went boom, but slowly. Cleaning a rifle is cleaning a rifle. It all takes some time to get to my standards no matter what I use. My .50 likes 60 grains and my .54 likes 80 grains.
 
I put 70 grains behind a .495 ball and .015 patch, my gun likes em tight

Hopefully I can put that ball through a deers chest this fall , sub 1.5 groups at 50
 
My hunting partner uses Schuetzen 3F in his 54 flintlock and swears by it,me I am partial to Swiss
 
I've not tried it yet as I'm trying to get through some old Goex but I do have several pounds of Schuetzen 3F and 2F. I have read several threads on Schuetzen powder and the vast majority of the responses have been positive. Yes, Swiss is universally known to be hotter and cleaner but it sems that Schuetzen is well liked.
 
I've been shooting Scheutzen for quite a while now. I shoot it because they support our local clubs. I have five pounds of the "Estes Goex" but haven't shot it enough to see any difference. I'm sure it's good powder.
 
For me:
Swiss is #1....burns well and cleans the easiest.
Schuetzen is good powder too. Cleans very easy too.
I still have several pounds of Goex & quit using it when I discovered Swiss & Schuetzen.

50 caliber guns I use 50 grains ( 2F ) to plink & 70 grains for shooting items that are heavier.
62 caliber smoothbore uses 90 grains ( 2F ) with .014 patching or quite a few times no patching.

I support Swiss/Schuetzen because they support the hobby.

Definitely the dirtiest powder I have ever used. It was the only powder we could find for a while and all of our shooting group complained about the time it took cleaning our rifles after shooting. Was glad to find Swiss, it's worth the extra $$.
 
I used up the last of my old Goex 2004. Bought Schuetzen 3F & have went through 1.5 lbs since last year. It's the dirtiest & caking powder i have ever shot out of my ML's. It doesn't compare with the Swiss i have. If it's all you can find or get then you have to live with it. I won't buy anymore of it !
