way back in the long ago, i came into a Kibler SMR in walnut ... very pretty with some decent figure (which you don't often get in walnut, at least in my experience). But here's the thing ... i am looking at the wrist, which is basically an oval in cross section, and i would like to make it more trapazoidal ... so, several "demb questions"

am i changing it into some other sort of Appalachain and if so, which one?

am i goint to weaken the wrist unduly if is remove the material> (the rifle is a .45 caliber, if that's significant)

any help would be appreciated

The wrist is as it should be.

The flat sides and sharp angles of a trapezoid is Not anything that would be used on the wrist of a rifle and would probably be very uncomfortable to try and hold.

I lowered the comb, thinned and rounded the wrist and extended the wrist back into the buttstock a little, I tend to mess with things but that is just me.

I think it looked OK;

well, for what it's worth, i went and started the BP (Big Project) ... the thing won't be a sharply angled trapezoid, but there'll be some flattening out of the curve and some blending as it goes back to the buttstock ... also want to take a bit off the blend where the panelsmeet the forestock, to make it look thinner and longer ... i might take some off the forestock, but Kibler has pretty much already done that for us ....

i willl try to get photos posted, but i'm not very tech- savy...

How are you dealing with that long, thin tang?

the curve isn't thar sharp ... there's still plenty of 'real estate ' for the tang

OK. Just wanted to make sure you weren't going to try and bend it to fit a reshaped wrist. It will break. Don't ask me how I know.

got the final sanding done ... i have about an eighth of an inch where the tang hits what was bever touched ... theis will be blended when i fit the tang, of course. maybe a tenth , but maybe less ... Kiblers are pretty accurate in this regard ... great fit & finish) although this one has a good bit of milling marks / chatter ... i took the sanding thing down to take out all the milling marks and rough spots ... looks pretty good ... put one coat of bolied ;indseed oil on it, and it loks pretty dark ... i may sand it out and go with a lighter oil (Tied & True or even Tru Oil) ... not sure ....

any thoughts?
