I'm really impressed with how you've been able to work with that awful teak wood. I thought it was kind of like working with dried paper mache. Finally took the leap and draw knifed off the “belly”
This step had me abit worried…..definitely was lottsa wood to play with under the ramrod channel/hole so it should work out okay!
It's a nasty job, somebody's got to do it to keep you guys virtuous.Yeah, wiscoaster is bit of a virtue signaler.

I think maybe you're on to something there. I once had a sailboat with teak side rails and various trim and that teak was strong, solid stuff. Nothing at all like what these gun stocks are made from.I sometimes suspect that Indian gun stock wood is from old wood sitting around or pulled from something like an old dock or barn, why it’s so dry and brittle with tight grains. Trying to get moisture into them is futile.
No need to be scared away if you get one from Loyalist Arms or Veteran Arms. They do a pretty decent job of getting them up-to-speed for you. The only downside is the wait time.Y’all are scaring me away from India made pistols. .....
Y’all are scaring me away from India made pistols. Still, I’m in no hurry to buy I guess so I will just keep paying close attention to this thread. I’m learning a lot.
Thanks. I may need to start following some auction sites.Do you want to work on the gun ?
Here is a used Japanese one these bid pretty low, might need a tune. These were sold by navy arms and Dixie Gun works in the 1990’s

Buy something cheap, like a Traditions Kentucky kit, that you don't mind destroying in order to build your skill set.....
..... I just need to up my skill set. That’s the genesis of my “scared” remark earlier.
My virtue left the building about 3 decades back. I was a grunt, not a choirboy. It's a nasty job, somebody's got to do it to keep you guys virtuous.
You got that right ! So far I’m only into it for about 350 canadianThis pistol project is really interesting! It’s probably a lot less stressful than building a higher end kit which makes it more fun I would think. Keep at it!
The wood on English service arms usually have more of a reddish tint due to the nature of European walnut.
