I'm really impressed with how you've been able to work with that awful teak wood. I thought it was kind of like working with dried paper mache.Finally took the leap and draw knifed off the “belly”
This step had me abit worried…..definitely was lottsa wood to play with under the ramrod channel/hole so it should work out okay!
It's a nasty job, somebody's got to do it to keep you guys virtuous.

I sometimes suspect that Indian gun stock wood is from old wood sitting around or pulled from something like an old dock or barn, why it’s so dry and brittle with tight grains. Trying to get moisture into them is futile.
I’ve actually seen some Indian made gun stocks with termite tunnels in them, termites don’t eat live wood

Pen makers use very thin crazy glue as a varnish on teak and brittle woods, just a thought. It’s rubbed in with something like a rubber glove. Dries in under a minute
I think maybe you're on to something there. I once had a sailboat with teak side rails and various trim and that teak was strong, solid stuff. Nothing at all like what these gun stocks are made from.
No need to be scared away if you get one from Loyalist Arms or Veteran Arms. They do a pretty decent job of getting them up-to-speed for you. The only downside is the wait time.

Yes, I think that if I get one of the guns discussed in this thread I would want to make many of the modifications discussed. I just need to up my skill set. That’s the genesis of my “scared” remark earlier.
Buy something cheap, like a Traditions Kentucky kit, that you don't mind destroying in order to build your skill set.

So finally got some home time away from work….
Had to tidy up the new pipe guide before I could begin to inlet it …
As cast its kinda neat you can see the original “assembly numerals” on it. Never see them but kinda neat they are there !
Cleaned up the cast marks and sprue…tried to leave the file marks and dings evident on the original.

While playing with the entry pipe I wanted to play with finishes to try and darken up the wood and even out the tones….it had an almost pinkish hue in places ! So I’ve had great success in the past with ebonizing solutions (vinegar & steel wool) so i tried that.
I suspect applying a tannin solution first ( strong tea works for this) would have enhanced the darkening effect but I’m not after black, just abit

After 3 coats…letting dry between.
After rubbing off the grey….
Definitely darker and a more even brown vs the pinkish hues.
Should appear more like I want (dark walnut) after the final finish.
Probably gonna stick to a basic “London finish” on this………hand rubbed Boiled linseed oil…definitely lottsa pores to fill on this wood.

The wood on English service arms usually have more of a reddish tint due to the nature of European walnut.
