True. It all began in the aftermath of WW1, when there were almost five million EX-service personnel who wanted something better than the crap-shoot they were handed. They were promised 'a land fit for heroes' and that never even nearly happened. The government of the day, seeing what had happened in russia in October of 1917, were frightened f*rtless that it was going to happen here, too, and began to lay the path that has led to where we are now.

In fact, the 1689 Bill of Rights DOES say that 'gentlemen should arm themselves', but only if the were 'good protestants' in order to defend against 'the wiles of popery'.

The ordinary person was never going to be able to afford firearms of any kind, hence the use of stone/pellet shooting 'crossbows' by country-living persons. No need to defend themselves against aggrieved natives like you guys had to - they WERE the aggrieved natives.
Dear T Foley .You put it so eloquently but was about the size of it . After the disastrous Boar War The Govt pushed for' A rifle in every English mans cottage " Thousands of old Martinis altered for 22 rl for the Society of miniature rifle clubs or some such style ,This post WW1 same poop was pushed onto NZ & Probably Aus particularly since many Bushmen carried revolvers for the snakes .So they brought in liscenses followed by only the squatter / cocky can have one . So the workmen got theirs confiscated was still that way when was on Stations' You would call 'Ranches' That was at least Queensland which was pretty free re firearms Then they thought they HAD to bring in anti gun laws since all the other States had dreamt up often ludicrous anti gun laws like license for original musket's because they where long ! But all pre 1900 pistols no licence in NSW.!! Doesn't make sense . Then Victoria push for all Pepper Boxes & Gold Rush heirlooms can only be handled by dealers . NO sense just stupid rabid ignorant ani gun Politicoes & Traps (Police ) If a Canadian Mounty runs into a ditch people help him out If an Ausy Cop does he's ignored. I once Bought a Traction Engine near Glen Rowen & was walking to a low loader firm to hire his drop goose neck to move it. Ime walking and this Sarky cop demands "Where you live? Main street Benalla ?" I've got a swag Ime fair game he must think. his partner calmed him down but it illustrates the attitude of such cops ' Traps' Us & Them 'No' Maintain the right ' view like the RCMP .

Really? What about paper cartridges?

Well, the only people making paper cartridges here in UK are GENERALLY those folks like you and me - with Explosives licenses and the authorisation to use them in the FAC-registered firearms, or that rare beast, the firework factory worker.

Of course, I can't speak for the criminals who might make them, but it's a long time since a baddie held up a corner shop with a paper-cartridge-loaded percussion musket...

A new Cabela's opened up near me and has caps.
I bought 2 tins for the same price as you.
I cried, and went home and drowned my sorrows.
But now I have 200 caps!

I wish I hadn't lost my Polish Capper at the Goliad Massacre last March.
It had half a tin of caps!
