I use these. The pouch in the backpack with the string to pull it out easy. For rabbit. Squirrel.
The crossbody bag for Pheasant. I'm thinking try those Shotgun holders in there.

I remember that one. Most of the contributors were re enactors with a good degree of knowledge of how warfare was conducted in the day so it ended up being detailed and hilarious at the same time.
It may have been the MLML (Muzzle Loaders Mail LIst) but I'm not sure. Also possibly a very early iteration of American Long Rifles (ALR) enquiring over there might roust a few members who remember and may even have downloaded copies of it.

When I was a teen I hunted every weekend with my uncles during the UP partridge season (ruffed grouse). Nobody that I knew called them grouse. They were called partridge or just "birds".
Anyway, one evening several of us were cleaning our birds taken that day. The way it was done was to simply pull the skin off, cut off the legs and neck/head and then draw them out. While I was pulling the skin off one of my birds and came to the crop at the neck I saw a snake's tail in the crop. I grabbed the tail and pulled a small garter snake out. The head had already been partly digested so obviously it had been in the gizzard.
For some years after that our group no longer called them "Partridge" or "Birds". We called them Snake Eaters.

Many birds eat small reptiles and rodents. A mouse best not get caught in the open by the hens in the chicken coop.
Now that puts a smile on my face!!! That pup is having fun and doing a good job. Thanks for showingBy the way here's my Squirrel Hunting Dog. We will make out to the Slough and the WMAs this weekend plus Monday.
I'm giving my Crockett Rifle a rest for now. I will be using my Sweet little Brittany Double Barrel .410 Shotgun with #6 shot. I will post after the hunt.
I will not wear a Go-Pro if I can take a few pictures of the hunt I will. I'd love for y'all to see Henry the Slough Dog in action.

Henry does enjoy hunting squirrels for sure. I think he gets upset when I miss them. He looks at me kinda fun.
Yesterday I went solo I saw a good amount right at daylight. Most were to far away, but three of the critters were in a tree nit 20 yards away. I would getca glimpse of them but never a clear shot. Leaves are still on the oaks and hickories.
