Since Dickerson placed him at the low wall and we have the story of Crockett being abused by Santa Anna we have what seems to be a contradiction. My personal opinion is someone was captured and hoped to get himself out of a jam claimed to be Crockett
What did Crockett look like? I’ve seen paintings of him and can identify him from those paintings, however if he showed up at an event I doubt I would recognize him. It’s unlikely Santa Anna or any Mexican would be able to recognize him
I completely agree with your statement.
I believe it was Bowies or Travis’ servant, ( it’s been too long), that claimed he saw Crockett lying there dead. That would have been the one person who would have recognized him.

Heap of folks never accepted what Garrett said.

This is the first time I heard that Davey didn't die at the Alamo.
We likely never will know what happened.

So much of our mainstream history is garbage.
Mebbe so. But I am pretty sure they are both dead as of January 2025.

Another thing...I read a lengthy article about the Alamo and General Coz was quoted many times, saying how they had captured Crockett and Coz asked Santa Anna, who was related to him, to spare Crockett life due to him being a US Senator. But SA didn't want to hear it, and orders him bayoneted by soldiers.
I will look for the book.

Jose Enrique De La Pena, Lieutenant in the Mexican Army, kept a diary or daily journey. In it he claims to have been present when 6 or 7 captive survivors were brought in. One was supposedly Davy Crockett. They were hacked to death by swords used by young officers when they were reminded of the "No Quarter" order. Another myth? Who knows?

This has jogged the memory and I remember reading an account by a nephew of Jesse James who claimed that there was an old man in hospital who contacted him and claimed to be the outlaw.
He was sceptical but agreed to meet him.
He said that the old man recounted incidents that only he and Jesse could have known about, little things like fishing together etc, and that the old man had exactly the same wound scars as Jesse was known to have.
He concluded that Jesse’s death was a put up job involving the State Governor etc., etc providing Jesse disappeared.
The fact that sympathetic friends of Jesse never shot Ford was also mentioned.

Anyone else remember this article?

I am working on a paper for college discussing history and the accuracy of it as it is taught. So, my question is this - Do you feel David (Davey) Crockett died at the Alamo?
I have done a ton of research, and many theorists say he was saved by Gen Santa Anna after being captured due to both him and Davey being a Mason. Now, when Santa Anna was captured by Sam Houston in battle after Alamo, he was also spared due to being a Mason. Theres also published newspaper articles stating he lived after with a bullet to shoulder. Then there's land grants signed by the President to Davey Crockett. While the signature od David Crockett has not been 100% authenticated parts of it were. And the biggest mystery is why would the President himself sign a land grant to a specific person, as the President Buchanan signature was validated, as was the Presidential seal on it. President Buchanan was also a Mason. Now said land grant was in Alabama where Davey was known to hunt, and it was also an area that once had Native tribes that Davey lost his political career to help protect and were known to be friends of Davey. The also news articles in the Austin City Gazette which posted a letter written Davey and given by Davey to a William White that Davey was and at time was currently forced to work in a mine in Mexico.
Then there's the many eyewitness stories all telling different versions of how he was killed, some by sword, some by bayonet, some by firing squad, some say he was just seen lying dead. So, what says the group while it can never be proven what's the public opinion. Does history have it correct?

Old Davey like fame and no way he would just walk away and never be seen again. He die there in that Texas dirt. Billy the same, but I do know for a fact we didn't land on the moon

Yes, an dna proved that Jesse James was in fact not kilt in 82, but lived quite some time an had a family, his descendants proved this.

So my questions would be:

A) have they confirmed that Crockett was a Mason? Of what lodge? IF they can document Joseph Brant being a Mason in the 18th century, they should be able to point to when and where Crockett became such.

B) How and when did Santa Anna recognize Crockett was a Mason? Masons were much more secretive in the 19th century and prior, and a secret Masonic hand gesture would be needed for one Mason to signal to another that he was a brother. Then in private conversation this could be confirmed between two Masons.

C) IF Santa Anna is alleged to have encountered Crockett alive, HOW did Crockett avoid the "no quarter" order given to the Mexican infantrymen (no prisoners) ? Santa Anna would not have been in the first wave that entered the grounds.

D) So IF Crockett did live long enough to catch Santa Anna's attention, and signal him, and was given special dispensation due to Masonic connections, where did Davey Crockett go, and where did he eventually die? Being sent to a mine is hardly the treatment one would give a brother Mason, whose life had just been spared. IF he was thought to be guilty of Rebellion against Santa Anna's rule, a quick and merciful death and Masonic rites at burial would be much more likely.

E) Were the alleged documents that seem to hint that Crockett survived, checked against timelines and family trees? In the first half of the 19th century, IF one had a relative that was elected to The House of Representatives in the US Congress, it would be quite normal for others in the Crockett family to name a boy "David" after their illustrious relative. More so after the heroic death at the Alamo, which is why I think the documents were given to "David Crockett" but not to the one that was at the Alamo.

History has it correct.

If he survived, why did he abandon his wife, children and family?
