I am seriously considering that! I do know that there are some folks in the neighborhood who would object. Don't know exactly who they are but I often find peanut shells in the backyard so there's that. We know that the State of New York executed Peanut so it's not him!

All my neighbors are good people so I don't want to offend any of them. Therefore, it depends on how quiet it is. 🤣
I have also had to resort to this subtrifuge. I have a 25 yard range behind my house which isn't exactly to standards but I had no neighbors just vacant land now I have neighbors so for my backyard shooting and sqiurreeling I have had to switch to O2

Sitting here looking out my office window during a long conference call and seeing several squirrels running all over the woods about 100 yards away. It's a feels-like 1.0 degrees... temp of 9.7 so says the neighbors weather station. Probably doesn't hurt that the "buffet" was renewed now that our flintlock season has ended.

We Stand Strong for P'Nut, around here.

I'll bet P'Nut helped in the election more than most realize.

Poor little feller; why did they have to kill him...

Late to the thread.
Hunting squirrels is as relaxing for me as fishing is to others.
I enjoy hunting either with my .36 or stick bow. Spot and stalk generally my preferred method.
Here in the Texas Hill Country we have greys but we also have those damn black squirrels. Those I don’t hunt, just kill. My Opa told me as a very young kid “We don’t eat those.”, so I never even decided to try one, but their heart and liver are used for catfish bait.
We now are splitting our time in the Ozarks of Arkansas. The Squirrel hunting up there is amazing. I’m still learning them critters there, Fox, Grey and Reds, supposedly some flying as well.

Welcome to the thread. Glad to have you aboard.

How big are the black squirrels in the Texes hill country? Asking for a friend, honest. 😁
They’re just slightly larger than our greys. They are ground dwellers, burrow in rock ledges, houses etc…..
Best thing to do with them is sit in the truck and wait for one to pop out. They definitely know what a rifle is, when I carry one they’re scarce, when I’m empty handed they’re everywhere. 🤣

Heading out tomorrow sometime, last weekend for squirrel here. I missed out on early season, but have been out a few times here recently.

Unfortunately, for whatever reason, I never seem to do any good late or the last of the season, but the walk is good and I generally will do some plinking if I am not seeing anything (dead trees beware!)

Best of luck to you, Tim. At the very least, just getting out there is good for sure.

Unless one finds a location where there are lots of squirrels that have never been been messed with, as well as catching the weather just right, late season squirrel hunting can be difficult. Between late season and early spring season, I consider those two to be the most difficult of all.

We have until the end of February here. The weather is forecasted to warm up starting today, but as luck would have it, wind is also forecasted to increase. Unless something mighty important comes up, this ole boy is going to be in the hills here chasing squirrels regardless. If I must drop down into a steep hollow to remain out of the wind, so be it.

Its time for you to switch to full Comando tactics. :)

Last time I had a decoy. I was sittin there watching a grey on the ground and one of those black ones came out. Dispatched him, the grey took a look at him sat a bit and another black one strolled out, I was thinking about putting him on the payroll, he obviously doesn’t like them either.
