Lyman Plains Pistol vs. Pedersoli Kentucky Pistol?

I suppose a good question to ask is "What are you going to use the gun for?" If your going to hunt with it a .54 seems good for certain applications. If you want to have a good target gun, you might want to think about a smaller caliber. I have not shot either one, but I have heard that the...

Load tuning for Le Page .44

I shoot a .433 ball with a .010 Wonderlube patch. When testing I started off with Swiss 3f (Swiss No. 2) 15 grns. Tried 17, 20 and 22. 15 was the best. It also shoots equally well with 15 grns. of 777 2f.

Is there a capper for Remingtons?

I have the same capper and it works very well feeding #11 caps onto Treso nipples on both a '58 Rem .44 and a '58 Rem .36.

    50 cal single shot caplock?

I have a Traditions William Parker .50 that I paid $370 for from Kittery Trading Post. It shoots just as accurately as my Pedersoli Le Page .44 that I paid more than 2x the money for. It is also, in my opinion an extremely good looking pistol. I have 7 BP pistols/revolvers, most costing more...

Using conicals in Le Page .44

I've never tried shooting anything but .433 round balls out of my Pedersoli Le Page .44. I am very happy with the way I shoot the gun. What makes you think that shooting a conical projectile out of the gun will make you a better shooter? I'll go out on a limb here and say that type of pistol...

    Feinwerkbau Under Hammer Pistol

I took the gun out twice last week. First time out - It shot great. At 15 yards 4 out of the first 5 shots were in the X ring, and the one that was not was definitely my fault. Using 12 grains of Swiss - shooting the gun is like shooting a .22. No recoil and highly accurate. I have the sight...

Initial thoughts on my new Pietta 1858

Sounds like you had a really good time shooting today. The Treso nipples will definitely make a difference. They did on my gun and the #11's now fit perfectly. I think they are a good investment - #11 caps seem to be more readily available most of the time. The wind may have had something to...

What Finish on a Pedersoli Rocky Mountain Hawken

Thanks for the info, but I am just trying to touch up the finish in a very small area that is dull to make it match the rest of the gun which has a very shiny finish. I just want to dab a little finish in that area so it looks consistent with the rest of the gun.

What Finish on a Pedersoli Rocky Mountain Hawken

I just got one in .50 from Cabela's. They had them on sale and I could not resist the maple stock. Anyway, the gun has a really nice shiny finish on it except for an small area near the tang which is really dull. I tried putting a little Formby's Tung Oil on it but it does not seem compatible...

    Pietta-Proressive Rifling

This brings up a question I have been meaning to ask. I have a .36 Uberti, and a .44 Pieta, both Remington style revolvers. They shoot nice, but nowhere near the accuracy of my .44 Pedisoli Le Page or my .50 Traditions Wm. Parker. Are single-shot BP pistols inherently more accurate than BP...

    Feinwerkbau Under Hammer Pistol

Well the gun arrived today and I must say it is a fine piece of engineering. Beautifully constructed excellent fit and finish and a terrific trigger. Also came in a really neat Negrini case. Only one thing...the factory forgot to put the rear sight and rear sight adjustment screw on the gun...

    Smooth Bore Pistol Accuracy

I did realize that follow through would be very important with flint. I seem to be getting fairly quick ignition but it is noticeably slower than with percussion. I was not using a rest - shooting offhand. I also knew that smooth bore would be a little more of a challenge. All right, I guess...

    Smooth Bore Pistol Accuracy

I received my replacement IFG (Pedersoli) Charles Moore Flintlock .44 smooth bore last week from Cheaper Than Dirt. They were great about the return. Tried 10 shots each of 2 different loads - 22 grn., and 25 grn. with 20 grn. of COW over the Swiss FFF. The manual recommends a 26 grn. load...

    Feinwerkbau Under Hammer Pistol

The .360 ball would be fine, but I'll have to use either a .010 or .015 patch with it. I think the .358 ball with a .015 patch gets me closer. I did see the Feinwerkbau at TOW, which is what started me on my search for it. They have that gun at Cabela's?

    Feinwerkbau Under Hammer Pistol

Zonie - you bring up some good points. Although this pistol is listed as .36 caliber the bore should measure .373" land to land and .383" groove to groove. .362 with .012 is recommended. I think the .358 ball with .015 patch will be the way to go.

    Feinwerkbau Under Hammer Pistol

I don't pour any lead, so a mold won't work for me. Need some combination of ball and patch I can purchase.

    Feinwerkbau Under Hammer Pistol

I just ordered a Feinwerkbau History No. 1, .36 caliber pistol. I've been wanting an under hammer from quite some time and stumbled upon this offering from an airgun dealer in Maryland. Quite a bit more expensive than the Pedersoli, but looks like a much better gun. I was very fortunate to...
