    wax on powder horns

So I'm almost finished with my first powder horn, and I was wondering if it's necessary to put a light coat of wax on to their powder horns after all of the scrimming and antiquing is done to protect the finish ?

    Getting parts to Alaska

UPS doesn't consider Alaska and Hawaii as domestic destinations, so they will charge a higher rate. UPS also has a sliding rate charge (depending on how much their customers use the service)and a fuel sur-charge and a destination charge and a pick up fee they charge a shipper. I see rifle stocks...

    Thrift Store Find

*sigh* I've had a similar conversation with a local antique dealer over a set of "very old and rare" bagpipes, that were actualy a junk Pakistani made set. It didn't matter to the dealer, he was promised they were "very old". Just walk away.

    Scalping v/s Butcher knives

So, where the Scalping knives actually sold as "scalping" knives ? Or was that just a "nick name" for a particular shaped blade ?

    Big Slab of Maple Burl

Thanks, Bud, looks like the price for a San Mai blade is a bit steeper than I thought. Ill stick with a nice blade from Track of the Wolf for my first blade. To answer Huntin Dawg, yes Maple Burl would be a real nice gun stock. However, burl wood can be a disappointing thing to work with on...

    Big Slab of Maple Burl

*sigh* I looked everywhere and I can't find the picture "I thought" was a knife blade with a caption, or the maker, saying it was a "half Damascus" blade. The top part of the knife was Damascus steel, and the sharpened part was plain steel. Maybe, I was dreaming :hmm: or, more than likely...

"tsk" A half Damascus blade. I think Claude had one ?!? yes/no ? Rick, umm, that dog in your Avatar is one ugly dude. Don't tell him I said that though.

Where does one find Bee's Wax for sale?

Toilet gaskets are pure bees wax. There's also, a place here in Eugene called Glory Bee Honey, (they do mail order, google the name for the link) they sell wax as well. You could also look for places that sell to candle makers.

    Big Slab of Maple Burl

This past week, I did a woodworking for a friend, for payment, he gave me a couple bottles of Tuscan wine, and a huge slab of maple Burl. The wood is like 2" thick and 18" wide by 30" long. It looks kind of like a big figure 8. Anyway, I'd like to take a wack at making a knife handle, something...

    Moose Milk vs Moose Snot?

Thanks, funny thing, the recipes are fairly close to a home made bag dressing I use to cook up for my bagpipes.
