    Scrimshaw tools

I've seen some nice scimming here on the forum, and I know each person has his own preference as to what tools he uses. However, since I'm just getting started at my first srim project, I wonder if some of those fellas, and/or gals, wouldn't mind sharing what type of tools they use to do their...

    PC WINES and CHEESE'S

The common wines of the day, as already pointed out, were typically Madeira and Port, or "fortified" wines. It was a way to make an inexpensive wine last the long journey from Europe to the new world. French wines, like we know today, were too delicate to travel the long distances without...

    Burned barrel ??

IMHO, I'd junk it. The consequences of a barrel failure are far greater than taking a chance at it holding up.

    Range day with daughter

My Wife and I had been totaly away from shooting while our kids were growing up. Money, job, time, all just didn't make it practical to go shooting for us. It was my Daughter(now 21)who re-kindeled the fire, while visiting one of her friends out of town, watched her friends dad shoot. When she...

Are clay pipe laying around the Thames?

A friend of mine who lives just outside London says that at low tide you can walk along the banks of the river and find pipes and pipe fragments in the mud. Granted, you may not find one that's in as good a shape as the one in your photo, but people find them all the time.

    Horn makeing

I'd like to get started makeing powder horns and doing some scrimshaw work. I have a full wood working shop, so I'm not lacking for the "bigger" tools. Are there specific tools used in scrimshawing ? So, where is a good place to start ? What would be some good books, web sites or other...

    spalted maple ?

I've worked with spalted woods in the past, and they can be a real nightmare. The "spalting" is basiclly from the wood beginning to rot. Although it's pretty, and can sometimes work, I don't know if I'd trust it for a rifle stock in the long term.
