    thinking about a new rifle?

GPR without a doubt. My son and I built one for his use, and it is a shooter. The build wasnt at all difficult, just took a bit of time to get the furniture looking the way it should.

    Revolver timing?

It turns there was a tiny burr on the cylinder stop/bolt that sometimes caught on the frame, preventing full return of the stop. I removed this, and there it was. 15 rounds, no issues. Thanks to one and all for your replies.

    Revolver timing?

Well, I took the thing apart again, checked all the things you suggested (thanks for the reply by the way) and I still have the same issue. However, I did note that with the cylinder out, the hammer goes far enough forward that the two fingers on the bolt spring back apart to parallel and...

    Revolver timing?

I read the "Do you strip your" thread with some interest, as doing so seems to have caused me a problem. I have a CVA Remington .31 pocket revolver, and after firing it the first time, I did, as is my usual routine, strip it down completely for cleaning. When I reassembled it, it was out of...

    #11 priming caps

Dont ask me how I know this....but make sure you dont have an expended cap tucked up into the hammer face. This too will cause misfires, the removal of said expended cap eliminating the issue immediately.

    hawken help

Ok..I'm going to open a can of worms....I have a TC "Hawken" kit gun I built in 1983, with a 1 in 66 twist barrel I put in five or so years ago. I live here in Missouri where there are half a dozen museums featuring half stock rifles that my TC would be right at home with. What the heck is wrong...

    PRB accuracy, twist, barrel length

I changed the barrel of my TC hawken from a 28" 1 in 48 to the 31 inch 1 in 66. I was astonished at the difference in round ball accuracy with a half dozen different loads. I was and am still delighted with the change, and notice no difference in the woods with a 3" longer barrel.

    flinch?

Well, I am headed to the range today in preparation for muzzleloading season. I will give the roll technique a try, since I dont intend to quit trap shooting  Thanks to both of you.

    Loose balls in bag

That is a nice piece of work, Pletch, and a heck of an idea. I think I will try one, and use it to augment my 5 ball block. I think it beats the heck out of loose balls. Not that I am likely to need more than one on a day of hunting, but I have always habitually carried extra.

    flinch?

I have a question for you experts. Since a trap shooter tends to shoot a great deal (its not uncommon for me to go through 300 shells in a practice session) and I was taught to "slap" the trigger, while at this level of practice I have become a fair trap shooter, the trigger slap has crept into...

    Flintlock vs. Caplock accuracy

As many others have said, not getting a flintlock would be doing yourself a disservice. And GPR's are fine rifles. Tuning a flinter to fire consistently just isnt that tough, and can be done in your living room if you dont mind the smoke. Many many helpful threads on just that subject are...

    Percussion to flintlock.

I have a CVA "Kentucky" kit I converted to flint, more or less as Toomuch described, except I used a TC lock, since I happened to have one lying about. It wasnt too difficult, and it made my introduction to flint ignition a valuable learning experience as well as a pleasure.

    1-48" or 1-66" twist T/C HAWKEN

My TC Hawken came with a 1 in 48 twist, and despite endless experimentation I could not get a decent group with a patched round ball. Finally the barrel became shot out. I ordered the 1 in 66 replacement, and it made a huge difference. Now I am confident of actually hitting what I am aiming at...

    Melting Lead

I have to agree with Stumpkiller. An electric pot with a bottom pour spout is the most convenient method I have used.

    Newbie but please still read.

Thank you. Appreciate your response. I am building my second flinter, a ToTW Bedford County style long rifle, .50 caliber Green Mountain barrel, which is why I have been lurking in this forum.

    Newbie but please still read.

New to this forum too, and have read enough posts to be able to say that the folks here are extremely knowledgable and always helpful. Good choice, though in my own case, my TC Hawken went from pitched baseball accurate with the 1 in 48 twist using round balls to a fine hunting and target arm...
