sight picturet on a smooth bore

Many Klatch, I hadn't either till I saw the thread about a fella's smoothie shooting low with shot. I thought maybe someone could fill me in on the process. I don't think my BO comes thru the computer so, maybe someone will shoot me an answer. I still might bend the barrel. Not for...

sight picturet on a smooth bore

Thanks one & all for the advise. I checked the muzzle first thing. Seems to be in good shape. I would rather keep it as a plain fowler & not add a rear sight, so I could use it shooting matches. Will probably try to file the muzzle. If I mess that up, I can take it into work & re-crown it on...

sight picturet on a smooth bore

Just got my first smooth bore. A Jack Garner 62 cal. Colonial Fowler. Never messed with one before. I tried different sight pics at 25 yds. Tried the sight on the back of the breech plug, low & left. Off the wedding bands, low & left. Off the middle of the barrel, low & left. Definitely...

How much Ballistol do you mix up at a time?

I tried using just plain Ballistol on my pocket knives. Turned pretty gummy after a little while. Wasn't very easy to remove either. Was going to use it on my locks but, I don't think I will now.

    Where can I find Tinplate

If possible, you should always use hand dipped tin plate. I work in a plant that makes what people commonly call "resistors". Those things you see on electric poles. We hand tin dip the copper stud inside of the porcelain. For various reasons, we some times have them shipped to a plater. The...

    tomahawk

I own the Cold Steel in the first link. Takes & holds a great edge. Haven't really thrown it much yet. Was going to ding it up just a little so it wouldn't look completely new. Beat on the top of my bench vise & all it did was dent the vise. Tuff stuff. It's a one piece head. The set screw is...

    Mink oil in the spring?

Gray Wolf, Have you checked the mink oil tallow from TOW. Was going to order some. They say it's real mink oil tallow but, if thats not the real stuff, I'd rather use lard. Thanks for any info. John Ezra

    Olive Oil & Beeswax

Brown Bear, The two rifles have Green Mountain barrels. The smooth bore is a Jack Garner kit. Used warm water to clean. it left a dirty looking film on the patches. Almost looked like fouling. Usually 4 to 5 patches start to finish. This time it took 10 or more. One good thing is that the mix...

    Olive Oil & Beeswax

Thanks for all the replies. Can't figure what I did wrong. The guns shot good. I shot my .40 at a shooting match using that mix. 17 shots & it was still going good. Maybe I need to give it another try. John Ezra

    Olive Oil & Beeswax

I've noticed that some use olive oil & beeswax mixture as patch lube. My buddy & myself gave it a try,the mixture was equal amounts of oil & wax, in two rifles(.40 & .50) & a smooth bore(.62) Worked really good until it was time to clean them. It left a lot of residue in the barrel. Had an awful...

Mink Oil at -45 Degrees Below Zero

Doc, Do you have any cleaning problems w/ the olive oil & beeswax? I gave it a try after using lard & beeswax quite a bit. Didn't need to clean between shots much but, it was a real bear to clean. Me & my buddy both had the same problem. Left a coating that was a bite to remove. Tried it in...

    Cold Steel trail hawk

I own a Cold Steel Trail Hawk. I think very highly of it. Without the ugly black paint on it, you can see heat marks where it was tempered. The hole can be welded shut by any decent welder. While it is a bit on the light side, it works very good for camp chores. It wasn't made as a throwing hawk...
