    "Non-toxic" Shot?

I get it from Ballistic Products.I don't use a shot cup.I've been using #4's but may try 6's this upcoming season.I was using 90gr Pyrodex and 1 1/4oz of shot.I used a hard nitro card over powder and thin os card on the shot.I was killing ducks and haven't even patterned the gun.I'm getting...

    "Non-toxic" Shot?

Try ITX like the others said.I use it for ducks and it knocks them down dead.

What is a good pattern with a ML shotgun

Thanks. That is exactly what I wanted to know.I'm mainly going to be duck hunting over decoys but there will be days when the ducks are flying just past the decoys and longer shots may be necessary.Still,30 yards would be max I would think, maybe 35.I will use 25 as my standard though.I thought 40...

What is a good pattern with a ML shotgun

I don't have any idea how fast my shot is.As far as how much lead,I was shooting #4 ITX shot,#6 lead shot, and 7 1/2 lead shot. All about 1 1/4 oz,maybe a little less.I also was using 60-70 gr Triple7 and 80-90gr Goex BP.I had several patterns that were absolutely terrible at 20 yards but with a...

What is a good pattern with a ML shotgun

Is there any way to post pics on here from my phone?I have several pics of the best patterns.

What is a good pattern with a ML shotgun

This may be a question with as many answers as people answering.I started a thread a few days ago stating that I was getting better patterns with 777 than real BP.This was at twenty yards. The standard for checking patterns is a 30" circle at 40 yards but this is with modern guns.I've tried 40...

better patterns with 777 than Goex

I don't mind being hijacked. You had some great pics and I'm always interested in what works for others.

better patterns with 777 than Goex

I mean tighter patterns with the 777.The Goex patterned ok but needs work.I was shooting only 20 yards. From the patterns I got at twenty yards, forty yards would be too far for effective hunting,I think. My gun has removable chokes so that helps.I was using Mod and full.I'm thinking 30-35 yards...

Mixing black powder with Triple 7

Two reasons.First,I have five pounds of 777 and I need to use it.Second,777 patterned better than Goex BP.I would rather use strictly BP in time but there may be times that I'm unable to get BP.777 can be found at any Gander Mt. Or Academy. Also,it would be nice just to be able to shoot either...

Mixing black powder with Triple 7

Yes,I'm getting slight hangfires. Not every shot but probably half.I'm using Spitfire musket nipples and caps. Also, about on e a session, the gun won't fire at all on the first shot.I went to 777 because Pyrodex misfired a lot.I would be duck hunting and have a group come into the decoys and the...

Results of prb in Pedersoli sxs

I haven't really tried one barrel at a time yet.I do know that my right barrel shot decent with less powder.I started out with 90gr BP and 80gr 777.I think that was too much.

Mixing black powder with Triple 7

I'm shooting a percussion Pedersoli 12ga sxs.I just thought that mixing would eliminate the slight hangfire. It isn't much but I don't want any.I didn't think about the different burn times of two different powders. Do any of you think it could be dangerous if I tried it with a few shots.Just...

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying?Do you mean shot cups?

Mixing black powder with Triple 7

Very good idea. That would save time while hunting. There are times when the ducks are flying early and fast.I need to be able to reload as quickly as possible.38 shell case sounds like just the ticket for that.

Mixing black powder with Triple 7

Those really weren't the answers I was looking for but I will take the advice of those more experienced than me and not do it.I just thought it might work.I guess I will just use goex as a primer when using 777.I can't hunt with confidence if I know I might get a hangfire.

Mixing black powder with Triple 7

I thought I would start a different thread on this.I'm getting better patterns with 777 than real black powder.Someone mentioned using about ten grains of Goex in front of 777 to prevent hangfire.Would it hurt to mix a whole pound of 777 with real black powder.Has anyone done it?Would it be...

better patterns with 777 than Goex

I really don't want to change from 2f.I've got 5lbs of Goex and about the same of 777.I think I can make this work with 2f.

better patterns with 777 than Goex

I am going to try reducing powder charge.70 gr seems like a good starting point and the 90gr shot is about what I'm shooting now.Since I can change chokes,it should be easier for me to get good patterns than someone who has to do it with a cylinder choke.

better patterns with 777 than Goex

Cool.Great pics. Thanks for posting them.It gives me more confidence. What kind of birds are those?

better patterns with 777 than Goex

You are right as far as bows go.I shoot both traditional and compound. If I go down in powder charge with Goex that may tighten up my patterns.i really don't want to have a bunch of wads over powder because of time constraints when ducks are flying well.Anyway with screw in chokes I should be...
