    Military musket loading

I read somewhere that the British army would provide cartridge paper, twine, loose powder, and balls to boys for them to make up cartridges. The boys would be paid 1 shilling 6 pence per 1000 cartridges.

pics of my rifle out in the woods.

Is that a CVA Kentucky kit gun? You did a beautiful job. How did you shape the stock next to the nose cap? I've got one and I couldn't figure out what to do there.

    Cool Pistols in Old Movies

 Wow! Great pictures! I like that quad. I guess you rotated the barrel 180 degress primed(?) and fired two more shots. The double looks a lot like the one in the movie. You probably had to be mucho rich to have one in the day.

    Cool Pistols in Old Movies

I was watching the end of the 1934 version of the "Scarlet Pimpernel" last night and a lot pistols were being waved around. One particularly that I liked was a double barrel flintlock pistol that the Pimpernel(played by Leslie Howard) had when he was cornered at the end. Does anybody make a...

    Cutting patch at Muzzle

This may be a dumb thing to ask but here goes. Has anybody tried using an over large pre-cut patch and cutting it at the muzzle? For instance use a patch good for .69 caliber for a .45 caliber gun, just gather the loose material and cut off. I guess it all depends on how much loose material...

    Belated Hello from South Jersey

 I've been posting for a while and realized I haven't introduced myself. I grew up with guns but haven't shot for years other than when I was in the Navy. I always wanted to shoot a muzzleloader but never got the chance until a friend of mine gave me a vintage CVA Kentucky kit last...

    Help with Screws

Hey I appreciate the tips. I've got a few old screw drivers laying around to play with. When the pistols were new, I wonder if a special Pedersoli screwdriver(now lost) was packaged with the guns. I can't believe they would have used such none standard screws.

    Help with Screws

I have a pair of 1971 era Pedersoli pistols with screws that I can't remove. Which means I can't disassemble the guns for cleaning so I can't shoot them. :( Hopefully you guys can help me. These screws have the narrowest slots I have ever seen. You can only just fit a razor blade into the...

    Hawkens on television

Since it's Halloween time check out "Sleepy Hollow" with Johnny Dep. There's a lot of rifles and the son of the richest man in town has a really cool long rifle with optic sights.

    Advice for New Shooters

dvlmstr, When I was in the Navy we used to put our brass(firehose nozzels, etc.) in a bucket of bug juice(Koolaid for landlubbers). That stuff would make the brass shine like it was new. Must have been mil-spec bug juice.

    .44 Caliber Pistol Ball?

Hey I could try 15 grains too. You usually use 2F? I thought pistols loads are generally 3F.

    Advice for New Shooters

Hey I'm a realitive newbie and I've thought of a couple of things I forget to do (other than shoot better). I just realized I forget to clean the end of my ramrod. I don't use the ramrod that came with my gun at the range preferring to use a loading rod instead. I leave the wooden ramrod in...

    .44 Caliber Pistol Ball?

I think I'm leaning towards the .429 balls. I use pillow ticking in my rifle with Lehigh Valley lube. I'll give that a try. I don't have any max load info on these pistols so I thought I'd try 22-25 grains of 3F, that should be safe enough.
