    broke the front sight

If yours is like mine, You really have no big problem. I think mine measured 1/16" deep. I have had two less than succesful attempts at making a new front sight for mine(at the point of fitting, it is easy to take a shade too much off). That just ticks me off and reinforces my determination to...

    Out of retirement...

Based on a recent experience with my old CVA Barrel. Don't even try to pull the breech plug! All you'll manage to do is bugger things up and it will still be tight. I tried it and when could not budge it, thought I was doing something wrong. So took it over to Bookie's and he could not get it...

    CVA Bobcat

 As the smiling face behind the counter at our local Walmart 2 days a week. I can say that it appears that CVA no longer makes these. So they are only available so long as We have inventory on hand. I think this explains the limited availability in some locations. As of last Saturday the...

    monstrosity

If your talking about a break action, all you have to do is walk into any "Mart or Big Box store" and look at all the inlines on the rack. Most are break action so it would work. But if you really want a traditional sidelock? You can get a CVA Bobcat for $59.00(US) while it has a plastic stock...

    new favorite wood glue

If your refering to turning the hair black? I can't say. I personally like Gray, because what did not turn gray fell out. Gosh I hope that was not caused by the Brylcreme I used in the late 60's? :winking: :winking:

    hemp jewelry cord...........

Your Right, I have been told that between the two World Wars my grand dad grew Hemp here in Iowa as a cash crop and to support the war effort. Since a lot of hemp rope was used the during the wars. To this day it is common to see patches in the road ditches. There has been a move to legalize...

    new favorite wood glue

Elmers Ultimate also is a poly Glue, works just as well and is a bit cheaper. Thats what I bought when I ran out of Gorilla Snot. It is water activated so dampen one of the parts your gluing. Once Dry it is totally waterproof or is that resistant(is anything waterproof?). And Yes Bioprof, "a...

    new favorite wood glue

Very Interesting! I have used Gorilla Glue on decks and outdoor furniture with no problems. Have never tried it on a gunstock.

    Shiny?

Man that is one pretty piece of Cherry! The whole gun looks great to me! I'm not usually a fan of high gloss guns, but the grain and character of that wood looks too good to mess with. I agree with the poster who said" let use and ageing take care of it". If it ain't broke don't fix it.

    Bleached Skull Mount?

I have yet to tell my 29yr old son, I don't know it all. Bailey has a Deer Skull he has burried all summer and it is now pretty clean, but natural bone color. He would like to bleach it and with winter coming on laying it in the sun probably won't work. How do we go about this?

    Shot size for "squills"?

There are Squills and then there are Iowa Fox squirrels. I have found enough #6 in fur to believe in using #5 and have seen nothing wrong with #4

    Pecatonica Rigby - how hard?

I do have a set of Dembart checkering tools and am experimenting with them. It's one of those basic skills I think I must have. I may never be an Al Biesen but have to get better.

    Pecatonica Rigby - how hard?

From the pictures I have seen, I'm guessing the underib is optional? For a Sporting rifle for field use, and to carry a ramrod on board. You would want he underib. For a target rifle it would not be needed. On a side note,I got to thinking last night and can think of no reason the checkering...

    Pecatonica Rigby - how hard?

Never built one, but have looked at it closely and would like to one day. maybe a switch barrel with fast slug barrel and slow roundball barrel. If one wanted to make a field rifle those additions could be made. Since they were predominately a long range target rifle(with a very interesting...

How Wide should a sight blade be?

Never been to Bents Fork or talked to any Bents Fort Hunters. Spent a week near Westcliff and around Canyon City every summer for 7 yrs straight. And have a brother living in West Cliff. My experience with BP is quite limited. Have done some centerfire benchrest shooting, but thought I would...

How Wide should a sight blade be?

Thanks for all the comments! I've decided to try the .080 brass and mimmick the TOW FS-Ca 1B target sight. I may have to open up the rear sight a bit. But since I like the patridge style sight on my handguns, I think it might work fine if not PC. Worst case senario would be that I have to start...

How Wide should a sight blade be?

While I'm saving for parts for a Southern Rifle. I have been trying to get my first muzzleloader back in shape to shoot. I had lost the front sight, some where while in storage. So set out to make one today. I have made three so far, this afternoon. The dovetail was 1/16" deep and I...
