    50 cal Hawkens

Hal Sharon got into the muzzle loading business in the late 1970's in Kalispell, MT. He offered half stock Hawkens, finished and in kit form. He also had full stock Hawken, English Fowler and Trade Gun kits. The Sharon Rifle Barrel Company was noted for it's very accurate barrels and these were...

    Left Hand FdC Lock

Does anyone sell a lefthanded lock appropriate for an early Fusil de Chasse?

What did I buy? What's it worth?

I've said this before and I'll say it again. If the mainspring (triggerguard)is strong on your underhammer, and you don't overcharge it, you'll never have to worry about it spitting caps into your forearm.

    h&a underhammer rifle

The correct nipple for the H&A underhammer is threaded 1/4x32. They're available from TOW. If you have the correct nipple, don't overload, have a strong mainspring and the brass factory flash guard, you do not have to worry about getting your forearm damaged by a cap.

    powder question

I've used it in my cap and ball revolvers when shooting Classic Cowboy in SASS events. Works fine.

    H&A underhammer question

I've never had my underhammers spit cap fragments or cook my forearm. If your hammer spring is strong and you don't overload, you won't have these problems whether shooting a side lock, mule ear or underhammer.

    H&A underhammer question

My H&A "Offhand" has a half cock safety. My previously owned .58 (with octagon barrel) had a half cock safety.

    DGW Tennesee Mountain Rifle

Can you explain a Loose or Reliefed Spot for me? What I found was that if I push a tightly patched cleaning rod down the barrel, being very careful to maintain a constant pressure, there's a point 14" from the muzzle when the rod speeds up momentarily and then returns to it's former speed. I did...

    DGW Tennesee Mountain Rifle

I have shot it. I'm just not getting the accuracy I'd like. Before purchasing, I dropped a light down the barrel. It looked good-sharp rifling, not pitted. It was only later on I learned about checking for a bulge. Sure enough, 14" from the muzzle I detected a bulge not visible on the exterior...

    DGW Tennesee Mountain Rifle

It's .50 cal and 15/16" across the flats. My first thought was a rebore. That would be a plus 'cause it would lighten the barrel a bit. Am looking at all options.

    Rifle Cost

Google "Inflation Calculator 1800".Plug in $7:00 for that Trade Gun. In 2012(the most recent year this calculator goes to) it would cost you $113.14. There's definitely somethig more than inflation involved.

    capture keys

.....and if you capture it after bending, orientation is never a problem.

    capture keys

I too had a soldered lug come off with a light tap while adjusting. A bent key is a much easier solution.

    Get an underhammer. Problems solved!

    H&A Breechplug Face

Using some of the posted replys, the problem has been solved. Here's what I found. The bore on the "Offhand" is closer to .440 than .450, so I chucked my jag(it's like the one pictured above)in my drill and spun it against a flat file and removed .002" from it's diameter. Dropping a light down...
