metalshaper, i've seen your rifle on the net before, and i must say, i like the design! mine, unfortunately, (or not) will be a more modified stock style. i still don't have any pics, but i can start some of the descriptive work. upob getting the hammer and trigger, i cut the aluminum reciever...

    underhammer build along

as per a request recieved after a mention of a project, i'm starting a build-along. while pictures are going to be coming later, i am going to explain my plans and list the components as they come along. first, the barrel; since i wanted an express rifle, i needed a fast-twist rifle barrel...

    .45 CAL

as far as shooting as cast bullets go, i've been shooting 255 gr. round nose flat point .451 diameter lee pistol bullets out of my 1-in-66 rifled cva for some time, and the accuracy is awesome! i'm probably pushing the pressure limits a little with 80 gr.charges, but it has behaved wonderfully...

    Kentucky Pistols

i have an old cva with that stock arrangement, and since i didn't like the lack of strength, i permanently bedded the nosecap onto the stock with epoxy. if you grease the barrel lightly before the epoxy treaement, it will come off quite easily!

    CVA Conversion

i got one of those two piece stock kits from a yard sale (35$, quite a steal), and like you, i hate those two piece stocks! my remedy was two get some fairly high grade wood (bocote, in this case), and permanently joined the two pieces together. i also did some customizing, making it a half...

    breech plug

i like the way you talk, mr. Hinnent. i'm a production machinist, so it annoy's me when someone throws me advice that doesn't quite wash, but you are shooting very straight. it may be a while before i am actually ready for the breeching, but i have a feeling i will be shipping to you for the...

    breech plug

i'm realizing that i didn' specify that the gunsmith was talking about diameter, not length length is dictated by action design(in this case, about 1.5"). this gunsmith was talking about using a 1/2-20 thread plug.

    breech plug

i am (slowly) working my toward building an underhammer express rifle in 45 caliber. i have finally located a local gunsmith who can do my bteeching. my problem is with something he said about the size of the plug, since he said a 1/2" plug would be strong enough for what i want(i will be using...

    Whetstones

i use good old fashioned dishwashing detergent and hot water! scrub 'em down (you can even use a little scotch brite pad), rinse 'em off, pat dry, and you're ready to go!
