    Newbie Powder Horn Question

    I am right handed and I carry both my bag and horn on my left side. It just seems to me like the logical place so that it does not get in the way while I handle the gun. But like the others said try it a few ways and see how you like it.

    Thanks for the kind comments. I was going for the look of something an original longrifle hunter might have carried, so I guess I succeeded! The balls are only .50 caliber. :) Gray fox are my favorite animal to trap. I sort of wish they would bother the my chickens more often. :grin:

    I made a ball bag. I used a biz tanned deer hide I did my self. The only thing not hand made about this bag is the thread used to hold it together! I put some boot oil on it since I mistakenly gave the hide an acid pickle before tanning it. Now it has an odd green color to it.

    I use 2F also simply because that is what is in my horn when hunting. And like Stophel said it works fine. So 3F is not necessary the only way to go if you want to carry just one powder type. I also suspect that I might have just a tad humidity advantage over the 3F guys. :blah:

    Took my flintlock out for its first deer hunt today (my first muzzleloader deer hunt too). I saw two deer in the woods at about 75 yards, but I could not ID it as an antler-less deer until it spooked. So, I decided not shoot at a running deer, but at least I saw deer!
