    Paneled Buffalo Horn

The antler tip is attached to the horn using a piece of brass tubing. I don't have any means to thread the main or tip, so I just used the brass tubing as a coupler. The two pieces are glued to gether using epoxy. Not PC or HC, but it worked. I am low budget type, I use what I have on hand...

    H&A Minuteman

I still have the percussion Minuteman that I built as a kit in the mid-70's. It was my first bp rifle. The hammer spring is a little weak, but it shot well, I even won a couple of matches with it. Not the greatest rifle, but i shot it for a couple of years. It pretty much a wall hanger now...

    Paneled Buffalo Horn

Rolf, I would guess that about an inch came off the base of the horn, some I cut off, the rest the dog chewed off. The horn itself was thick, maybe 3/16" in placed. At the base the panels aren't flat, but a slightly curved. I thinned the panels as much ad I dared and then filed the panel...

    Paneled Buffalo Horn

I don't know if this should be posted here or in the photos section, but anyway here it is. I haven't made a horn in 30 yrs or so, so I figured it was about time to make one. I started with a buffalo horn that was a little longer than it is now, the dog got a hold of it twice, cow hoof...

    Making a Shooting Bag

Ricardo, This a card woven strap. I used playing cards and a simple wooden frame to support the yarn. The piece of wood was just a 2x4 about 7 ft long. The only problem with this setup is the yarn gets really tight toward the end of the strap. Others with more experience would most likely...

1st Holster and Belt for Remmy 1858

I got excited this weekend and made a holster and belt for my brass framed Remmington 1858. I got the pattern at Tandy's, as well as the belt blank, buckle and brass spots. I can't afford anything Chuck Burrows makes, unless I managed to sell off one of the kids. His stuff is just plain...

Remington new model army, what size ball?

I measured it a couple of times and got the same, .441. I checked a couple of swaged balls and got measurements that seem reasonable, within a couple of thousands. I was able to find some .454 balls locally. I thought I would give them a try this weekend. Tim

Remington new model army, what size ball?

I have a brass frame army, that I would like to shoot. The pistol has no markings of any type. I know from reading the forum that either .451 or .454 balls are used. I measured the cylinder at .441. What size ball would be best choice? Thanks, Tim

    Newbie needs pattern recommendations

I was wanting to start attending some of the local Rendezvous. The local group is concerned with Fur Trade Era of the early 1800s. I am fairly low buget so I would like to make as much as I can. I have a copy of BoB Volume VII on the way. I can't afford much in the way of reference material...

    New to this

I recently bought the parts for a Tennesse style rifle from Troy of Stonewall Creek Outfitters. Curly maple stock, Green Mountain barrel, Davis set triggers, Chambers Late Ketland lock, butt plate, trigger guard and thimbles for a little over $500. Troy is a good guy, you might give him a...

    1st Bag, Critiques please

Brett, I used Half Moon Ranger's pattern as a start. I then created other patterns as needed. I have paper patterns for all the pieces. I am working out of town this week. When I get back this weekend, I will see what I can do about getting a copy of the patterns. Tim

    1st Bag, Critiques please

Thanks for all your kind comments. Snake-eyes, yes, I did the weaving for the strap. This was my first card weaving project. I wove a short 2ft section out of acrylic, just to figure out what I was doing. Then I wove the strap that you see. Rick, yes, I did hand stich this. I used one of...
