    gun oil v. olive oil

I have used petroleum based products, now using Ballistol, I've been told it is petro based and also that it's not. Also heard it good to keep petro based products away from BP firearms...why would someone say that? Have lots of friends who use Rem oil.

    gun oil v. olive oil

I've always cleaned my rifles with warm water in a bucket with a bit of dawn dish washing soap, dried it good and then gave it a coat of Ballistol. Recently I heard of a guy who uses olive oil instead of gun oil or ballistol. Was wondering if olive oil would give the barrel the protection it...

proper use of fillers in cylinder

hawkeye: Do you use a cardboard wad between the powder and CoW? Or do you just pour the CoW right on top the powder?

    Does this barrel exist?

Can anyone tell me if I can find a drop in barrel for a Lyman GPR stock. The barrel would need to be 15/16 ATF and 32 inches long. I would like to find one in a .40 or.45 caliber. Does such an animal exist or is it just wishing thinking on my part??

    Cleaning patent breech?

I don't a lot about a patent breech  , but I sure enjoyed the pictures.

    1972 Renagade

I'd take a bore light with me and look down that barrel. The seller, most likely, is being honest with you about the condition since he knows you're going to be making the deal face to face. Hope it works out for you, good luck.

    Cleanest burning bp?

I need to apologize for the previous statement highlighted in red. After re-reading it...it comes across a bit snotty. Sorry about that!

    Cleanest burning bp?

Zonie: Thanks for your response. You're right on track. Perhaps I should have asked about fouling instead of cleanest burning. In my mind, they are one in the same. Maybe I need to change the way I think. :hmm: And yes I was referring to black powder, not any of the substitutes. (i.e...

    Cleanest burning bp?

I shoot a Pietta '58 remmy. I've been using 30 grains of Pyrodex P, but am thinking of going to holy black. From your knowledge what is the cleanest burning BP?

    Make your own mold?

Anyone ever make their own round ball mold? If so, would you care to share how you did it? I'm asking because I'd like to make a .528 rb mold.

    For the Lyman Shooters

For sometime I dealt with the same problem. I didn't have a manual so I asked a friend of mine who was more than willing to help me. I put a steel ball on the lug and tapped it until the pin fit just right. We all know...the only stupid question is the one not asked.

    A rough spot

So the other day my buddy and I go out shooting paper, when we get done we go over to his house to clean our rifles. He happens to mention that his barrel has a rough spot near the bottom, about 4 inches up from the nipple. So he asks me to run a patch through it and tell him what I feel....sure...

    Beside pillow ticking

Yeah...I think I'll take my barrel, a ball and my short starter to Wal-Mart and see if they have any other cotton material with a tight weave that might work. I may get some funny looks from people and they may kick me out! But a guys gotta do, what a guys gotta do.

    Beside pillow ticking

Besides pillow ticking and store bought patches, what do you guys use for a round ball patch? I'm asking because the Wal-Mart store here in town quit selling the .15 ticking and now sells the thicker ticking...which for me and my .54 Lyman is to thick. I used it once and almost had to hammer...

    T/C Cherokee.

If I were in your shoes, I'd buy it. Sounds like a Cherokee (which is a .45 cal.) and an extra barrel (.50 cal.) has been thrown in on the deal. It wouldn't be to difficult to pick up a stock for that extra barrel.

    Cylinder rotation

Well...I learned myself something...make sure the trigger spring screw is snug...I guess I put it in but didn't tighten it up enough. :headslap: It helps to have that screw snug as it works to hold the cylinder stop in correctly.
