    Tips to insure quick ignition

I have watched just about every video on youtube regarding flintlock muzzleloaders. One thing I noticed is that some people can get the flnters to fire instantaneously while other have a noticeable delay. What are some things you can do to insure instant ignition? I will most certainly be...

    Talk me into a Flintlock

I am just getting into traditional ML's I have been hunting with inlines for over 15 years. I currently have two percussion's but the Flintlocks intrigue me. It seems like they have a large following and the rifles bring a premium. So what is the allure to them??

    opinion on Lyman rifles wanted

Now that I have gotten the bug for traditional muzzleloaders I would like to have one very good rifle that will shoot PRB very accurately. I would like it to be 54 caliber due to the heavier RB of the 54. How is the accuracy of the Lyman rifles? I like the great plains rifle but may end up...

    Lyman Plains Bullet??

They fit down the bore snugly. I had to kind of tamp them down to get them down to the powder. I agree a wad would probably help maybe another time. The PRB shoot so well and will get the job done on deer so that is what I think I will stick with.

    Lyman Plains Bullet??

I finally got to the range to try them out and my results were ok. I would say not awful but not great either. Below is a picture of a group I shot from my TC renegade using 70grns of Goex 2f at 50 yards. By the 5th shot they were getting very difficult to load and I was swabbing between...

    Lyman Plains Bullet??

I already have the mold bought it with a box of stuff at an estate auction.

    Lyman Plains Bullet??

Ok I am going to give them a try. I cast some of these bullets with some pure lead. They dropped out of the mold at .510 diameter. I am pan lubing them with 50% / 50% beeswax and Crisco They will fit pretty tight in my bore so I have high hopes. I will start with 70 grns of 2f Goex.

Picked up a TC renegade, I like it!

Its a .50 I would like to replace the stock but those guys on ebay sure are proud of them.

Picked up a TC renegade, I like it!

Well I have put the Hawken aside for a little while because back in the corner of my LGS was this charity case TC Renegade. It has a large chunk of wood missing from under the side plate and the barrel had been neglected but not abused. I took it home and spent a couple hours scrubbing the...

What kind of accuracy should I expect TC Hawken

Thanks for all the help, Can I get some lube recommendations since the bore butter is a no go?

What kind of accuracy should I expect TC Hawken

Thank you for all the help. I will try the 6 o'clock hold and get some targets that are a little more defined. I am also going to try some 3f powder. I really don't see a need to bump the powder charge up past 80 grains but with 3f it will give a little more velocity. I assume the gun will...

What kind of accuracy should I expect TC Hawken

I have a very nice TC Hawken 50 cal I purchased that I believe was unfired. The bore was bright and shiney. I have been using Goex FF and patched RB with .10 patch lubed with Bore butter. I swab with a wet patch followed by a dry patch after each shot. I have tried both .490 and .495 RB. I...

TC Hawken with GM Barrel misfires

I keep hearing everyone tall me to use REAL BP, well that would be great if I could find some. Not one retail outlet within 100 miles of me carries real BP. (Maybe 200 miles) I am not in a position to buy $100.00+ worth of powder from the mail order places for the time being. So subs is what...

TC Hawken with GM Barrel misfires

I think I have found part of the problem. I took the set screw out of the side where the nipple screws in and noticed the musket nipple screwed in about 1/16" further than the percussion cap nipple. This constricts the area opposite the flash hole to a very small area barely large enough to...

TC Hawken with GM Barrel misfires

I have a TC hawken that has a drop in Green Mountain 50cal barrel 32" with RB twist. The first time I shot it I was using some older pyrodex and the no 11 percussion caps and it seemed to be getting a slight hang fire. So I switched to a musket cap and bought a new can of T7 went out tonight...

Tang peep sight for TC hawken

I was wondering about that. I have glass bedded about 20 rifles in the past and was thinking the same thing. I would assume it wold be a full length bedding job.

Tang peep sight for TC hawken

Was thinking something like a short range sharps style verneer sight. Also looked at the Williams and may consider one because the price is right.
