i know you want a good pattern but asking for modified chokes in a ml. shotgun is going to leave you playing h*ll trying to stuff the cushion wads down the barrels. it will be tough to get them past the muzzle then they will be undersize and not seal well. i have found ways to alter my pattern...- mopar66701

roundball, i just noticed you are from north carolina. i bought this gun last summer from a guy in north carolina...with a stainless 3/8 ramrod no less....could it be your gun?- mopar66701

mine is a navy arms also. it has a 3/8 stainless rod already in it. im not sure about the overall weight but it seems plenty heavy. more would probably stop some of the recoil but mostly it is barrel rise i think that is the problem. the lop is good for me. it is something about the other...- mopar66701

ok. this thread is old and maybe nobody remembers it but i finally got a day that wasnt storming or bitter cold or super windy. i got to try some different combinations and pattern my 12ga sxs. after christmas i had my wife buy a bunch of wrapping paper cheap to use for this. i got some #4 shot...- mopar66701

rabbit hunting
thats the way we do it here. beagles and rabbits is our game. its like a surprise when the smoke clears if you see the rabbit laying out there or if he slipped by too fast and got away! we like "smoked" rabbit :haha:- mopar66701

seems ok to me. i dont have a lot of experience in the muzzleloading realm. that is my only bp rifle and the only one i have ever fired. havent been able to get too far on determining the load i like or tuning the accuracy on account of the sight issues. maybe i will be able to get that done...- mopar66701

thank you all for your input so far. seems i left out quite a bit of information that most of you are interested in. the gun has no screw in chokes. honestly i have no idea what the choke is. probably ic i would guess. using ffg/777 for powder with an overpowder card,cushion wad, winchester AA...- mopar66701

i was using 7 1/2 shot. sorry for the omission of such important information. is it advisable to use very much less shot than powder? like i said i am pretty new to the game. i thought the powder and shot charges should be equal. can the shot be reduced without the powder or would that blow the...- mopar66701
