    Mink oil melt?

Is there a noticable change in accuracy between a light smear and a heavy smear of lube? I have been using the dip method because I did not think I could get consistant amounts of lube by smearing.

Barrel screws instead of barrel pins ??

My Pedersoli Blue Ridge flintlock (sold thru Cabela's) uses the short screws that attach the ramrod thimbles to also attach the stock to the barrel. I like this feature because I feel I can get a better cleaning when I can dunk the barrel in a bucket of water and not worry about getting the...

    Barrel coneing tool

Thanks, The tool I remembered from months ago turned out to be made by Ed Hamberg. My problem was I was not searching the correct forum. I found the article elsewhere searching on "ed hamberg".

    Barrel coneing tool

I saw pictures of a great coneing tool but I cant find it with my search skills. It was a cone shaped tool that used emery cloth to remove barrel material. It was offered for sale. Please point me in the right direction. Thanks

    Lyman Flintlocks

Are you talking about a new gun? I have used solvent only when removing the factory preservative from a new bore. I have used mineral spirits and Break Free with success. IMHO neither one will harm the bore overnight.

Replacement Flint lock for a Pedersoli Blue Ridge (Cabelas)rifle?

Is the lock you received marked in any way to identify it as a RPL Model 6 ? Maybe the guy in the shipping department reached into thew wrong bin.

    touch hole liner

I just bought a Blue Ridge in 54 cal. My vent liner had a screwdriver slot rather than an allen socket. It was very hard to remove. When I got it out I found the thread diameter on the liner to be .312. The liner is M8x1.25 thread and if you go to a hardware store and buy a 8mm cap screw...

    barrel lug loose

There are no holes to elongate on your rifle. The only problem I see is some difficulty lining up the loose lug so you can get the screw in. When you snug up the screw, the lug should stay put. You can also peen the dovetail material against the lug to increase the friction and then tap it...

Will the lawyer cost more than the lock?

    How Clean is Clean?

I clean with soap and water until I get white patches. Then I use a patch with Ballistol and get the gray material. I think the soap and water won't clean in all the machining marks but the Ballistol gets into the cuts and lifts the gray stuff up acting like a penetrating oil. I think the...

Replacement Flint lock for a Pedersoli Blue Ridge (Cabelas)rifle?

Which L&R lock did you buy? I have a Blue Ridge in 54 cal. that has a very heavy trigger pull and I was looking for a replacement lock that would have a lighter trigger pull. I sent an email to L&R asking if they had a lock to replace my Pedersoli. The reply said RPL Model 6 would fit with a...

    TC Maxihunter size

I never tried loading or shooting them. The problem was found when I measured the length and diameter for the purpose of calculating the Greenhill number. (This tells me which rifle twists will likely shoot them the best. I have rifles in 28, 48, 60, 66 and 72 inch twists)

    TC Maxihunter size

They measure .540 at the base and .545 on all the other bands. As I understand the mechanics of bullets and barrels these bullets would not be expected to shoot worth a darn. They would never expand into the grooves and would not have enough friction to stay on the powder charge when carried...

    TC Maxihunter size

These bullets are the same diameter (.542) as the diameter across the lands (.542). There won't be much engraving. I have some Buffalo Bullets from Dixie Gun Works. They are the 310 gr Ball-et, are .554 diameter and will probably work just fine.

    TC Maxihunter size

I bought a box of 20 54 cal, 435 gr Maxihunters. The diameter measurers .542 which is also the land diameter on several of my 54s. This can't be right. It will load with little or no force and will probably fall out if carried muzzle down. Am I missing something?

    Ballistol for cleaning?

A side note: I have noticed after soap & water cleaning when the patches are coming out clean, I run a patch with undiluted Ballistol down the barrel and the patch comes out dirty. I think the oil gets under the dirt the soap & water could not loosen and breaks it loose.

    Cabelas Kentucky Flintlock Rifle

Thanks a bunch Cowpoke. I have been admiring the Blue Ridge from afar but the price was a little too much. After reading your post I went to the Cabels's website and ordered one at the $529 price. This is a reduction of approx $100 from the previous sale price. Thanks again for the heads-up.
