    1860 Colt Original?

I saw this type at a gun show in Birmingham in 1970, as a 20 year old I did not buy the line of bull back then and it is still a fake. I did a better job on a Navy Arms Navy revolver at the same time used bleach to etch the finish. But I never passed it off as a original.

    Very nice!

    Maximum Range Flintlock

I agree on 75 yards, however that is due to my old eyes not my rifle's ability. The weapon is good out to say 200 yards. Remember that the shooters of old normally only owned one rifle and shot it more than we can imagine. I remember my grandfather making shots with a old 1917 Infield that he...

    oct/round rifle barrels??

I have a .54 O/R built as my hunting rifle. Like the way it handels in the woods. Rifle was bult to hunt in swamps and hardwoods wanted a short light weight rifle. Very happy, the deer not so much.

    50 cal bullet

I have two .54s with 1 in 66 twist, one will shoot the ballets one will not. A good tight patched round ball will do all you need in most hunting. Two hundered years ago they did not know that the round ball would not kill deer sized game.

2F vs 3F in the barrel

Like Cowpoke said all rifles are different. My .54 hunting rifle shoots 3F (same load) 1" higher at 75 yards than 2F the accuracy is the same.

    Front Sight

The sight on my hunting rifle is steel with a touch of yellow paint.

    Wheel weight vs. pure lead

I use wheel weights and pure lead. My hunting loads are pure lead. Use the wheel weights for play. Seem to be close in performance but if I shoot at two deer this year why take a chance.

    How much to get started?

The botton line is you can get started for 500 up. The problem is that is just the start. I got started in the dark ages (1969) with a $49.00 kit from Dixie. My muzzle loaders run the line from that kit to a $3000 custom. ( don't let my wife see that figure) Find you a good used rifle get some...

    Is this Hawken "right"?

    Powder for flash pan

3f will work as well as 4f I have streamlined my operation, I now use 3f for every thing. .50,.54 my pistols. Priming and main charge with a good fast lock and vent it has worked for me.

    Colerain 50 cal. Loads?

I use 70gr of 3f on my .50 and 75 in my .54 target and hunting. As said all rifles are different try with your rifle.
