TOW Bucks County Rifle Kit Update #22

Mr. B. when you took that chisle out and hit at the top of the comb I was like "OH NO he's going to knock out the top of it." Watching you work I was scared...I'm going to be terrified when I do it to mine. Looking good it's coming together nicely. I bought a U gouge like yours and yours...

    Trade Rifle....kind of

Not a expert here but like Pretty wood. If you have the funds I would spend the extra $50 for that natrual curl for the work your going to put in it. Especially if your not going to tacky it up with a patch box. LOL. That big stock with nothing but nice curl sure would look good.

TOW Bucks County Rifle Kit Update #21

Mr. B, sorry if that sounded harsh up above I was just poken fun with you, I would not be attempting my build if not for you and your videos. One thing I notice watching the videos, the only time you seem to really cause yourself problems is using the rasp. Watching you work, it "Looks like"...

    Building A Kit

Look up Hovey Smith on Youtube he builds a 32 crocket in the kitchen, I think that is the type kit you are talking about building. Those kits really do not require much in the way of tools. And for a barrel finish there are a lot of options. Birchwood Caseys gun blue paste sounds like the...

    Decorating a Stock?

When you get your tacks. Don't over do it, lots of tacks = Tacky. LOL. Wonder if that is where the term came from??? One suggestion is clip off the tack from the head so you can lay the head flush. Place them with a piece of tape inside the head so you can get a feel for the finished product...

    Navy Jelly barrel/funiture?

Zonie. I guess that might be the reason for not using pewter on the butt plate. No experience with the stuff but will have some in a few months. I will try some jelly on the piece of barrel and see what we end up with then go from there to Jelly or not to Jelly. LOL

    Turkey fail

Yep. Normally the head will be sticking up on a bird that his neck is not broke. So a good practice is to step on the head, Grab a leg or two and give a little pull and twist. If you feel a little give. He isnt going anywhere. Haven't had one do like yours play dead then get gone. Another...

    Aquafortis gone bad?

I was in my Ace hardware store and asked if they had pure Lye for drain cleaning. Answer was "Sure how much you need". So it is available pretty easily appearently at real(not Box) Hardware stores.

    Navy Jelly barrel/funiture?

Gents, In the process of a build figured the finish for the barrel and funiture would be blued, but kinda leaning away from that now. Would like to know more about the Navy Jelly process used on barrel and steel furniture. If the gray/blue steel is what you get with it that is probably the way...

    Bobcat 50 cal

Oh one thing I did to mine. filled the hollow butt end of the gun with some lead and rags to help the balance. Cheaper than a wood stock. Someone on the forums here really dolled up a bobcat with a wood stock and boy it looked good. You will not find a drop in stock for it unless on ebay. But...

    Stock polish

Birddog, I was doing some looking for finishes and this guy about the 3:30 mark said that a heavy wax shows water spots. might be the reason for the different takes on the wax you have/used. Me :idunno: never used it enough to know. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_eVQVo-MvA

    Layout fluid?

I got grin factor! If anyone would have told me they would have come out as good as they did I wouldn't have believed them. Must of had someone watching over my shoulder for sure. better pic of the finished lug.

    Layout fluid?

That first one is a little proud of the barrel its in the .00x area so happy with it. pic does not show it well. These lugs are .049 and I have plenty of straight wall barrel to work with. The second one is spot on height wise but only needs two hits with mallet to get it in. You can see my...
